As a matter of fact...here's a post on the SprintDevelopers.com forum discussing this...http://sprintdevelopers.com/article23.html Looks like the Sprint implementation (or actually Qualcomm's QJAE) for midp 2.0 (what's on the EVDO A900) doesn't work right now anyway....Course it looks like that is an older discussion so it may be live (but I cannot get Garmin or TeleNav to work on my A900).

Here's a link to their page for alternate uploaders too: http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t= 83030

Additionally, http://www.howardforums.com/ has a lot of good information too. Here's an actual http://sprintdevelopers.com/ Sprint-centric development site too.

Although, most of this may be useless, because I see in this post http://www.sprintusers.com/forum/showthread.php?t= 52772&page=1&pp=15 what you are talking about regarding the Verisign cert. You can run your own code, but to access the GPS stuff you are restricted. Hopefully someone in the above forums can help you out to bypass it. I'll keep an eye out, because that sounds like some pretty cool hacking to do.

I will say, I'm in the same conundrum as you. I've been holding off buying a PowerMac G5 (dual 2.5) until the Tiger announcement...now I've gotta hold off to see what the new hardware is going to be.

I don't necessarily care about the hardware bumps (I was maxing the 2.5 GHz out) but I'm thinking the machine I was going to get will be a little cheaper now.

I recently wrote a multi-threaded socket based server that uses the NIO classes. This application uses not just the network portion, but also utilizes the DirectAllocate functions for memory allocation. DirectAllocate does use system calls to allocate memory directly in order to speed up all the manipulations of the buffers. I.E. Sun recognized the fact that when manipulating large buffers in memory....it can be slow when having to go through a translation layer. So, there are native libraries needed for this.

I developed the code using JDK 1.4.1 on Linux (Red Hat 9). Tested it on my workstation at work that ran Windows 2000 using both JDK 1.4.1 and 1.4.2, and have deployed it on two Solaris boxes and it has run under 1.4.1 and 1.4.2 (albeit better under 1.4.2).

There was no porting needed whatsoever. I used pretty much all of the NIO classes in my code.

The problem is coming now that I have the replacement. I purchased a completely different brand because of the difficulties I had with my previous TV (and other people having the same issues). Now I'm having problems with my current TV. They've come out twice to look at it and said nothing is the matter with it. I believe they think I'm just trying to get another new TV.

It's the people they mentioned in the article (and have been mentioned here on Slashdot) who intentionally break things to get an updated item that are causing some of these problems. If they didn't have to worry about people like that....they wouldn't have to suspect me of playing the same game.

UC Davis and the surrounding Sacramento and bay area had a very negative reaction to a BSL-4 lab being created. Therefore the government determined that it would not be a good idea to build it here.

I actually saw this robot in action and spoke with the developers when I was contracting for the company that makes them. They were going to use them in-house to deliver mail to the various mail stops around the buildings.

The fact that it "stops" when it no longer can move safely is simply a time-out. Given a few seconds, it tests to see if the way has been cleared, and if so, it will continue along. If after a certain number of re-try's, it still cannot move, it actually notifies the people in charge of it wirelessly, not simply stand there and say "I cannot go on".

And as said before, these robots do not carry the narcotics, important drugs. They are used to fill the time doses for that floor, i.e. antibiotics every couple of hours, etc. Some hospitals are using them to deliver food, and for more fully automated hospitals, it delivers refills of supplies that the pharmacy automatically tracks.

As someone who is married to a psychologist, my wife came from this movie feeling that this movie very accurately portrayed a paranoid schizophrenic. The reason he seems a little "Forrest Gumpish" is that is the way schizophrenics act, both due to the illness and the medications that they are on.

I also liked how they made you believe these people were very real for so long. This is how a schizophrenic feels, and I think Ron Howard was trying to relay this sense of realness that a schizophrenic has.

HD Programming is already available, in quite a few markets via over the air (yep, plain old rabbit ears, like mom and dad used to use). CBS has something like 15 shows in HD (CSI rocks in HD), and several of the other networks are scrambling to follow suit.

There is HD Showtime on DISH and HD HBO on DirecTV and DISH. DirecTV also carries Mark Cuban's (owner of the Dallas Maverick's) HD-NET a 24-hour HD only channel. Both sat services also offer PPV HD movies.

Portions of the Olympics will be aired in HD. At least one NCAA football game every week was aired in HD. The SuperBowl has been aired in HD. Quite a few big name sporting events have been aired in HD.

Stating that "programming will be available" and that it "will be sold as a luxury service" shows just how uninformed the public is about HDTV. There is so much programming available now that many people feel that we have reached critical mass (i.e. 50% or more of the prime time lineup is in HD). Most of this programming is available free over the air, or included with your subscription price to your standard service or premium channel.

Comcast and Time Warner are also starting to provide terrestrial cable feeds of HD in several of their markets. From what I hear, this service is only $10-15 more per month to have right now, and that increase is just your standard increase to have "Digital Cable"...the HD is included in that package.

I say go for getting an HDTV. I bought my 61" widescreen HDTV about 6 months ago, and have never looked back. Probably one of the best "geek" purchases I have ever made.
