  1. Re:OS X on Wolfenstein Linux Binaries Available · · Score: 2

I've played Wolfenstein multiplayer test on my iBook. I cranked the graphics all the way down before I begain playing it. It ran smoother than Wolfenstein on my Win2000 box with moderate graphics settings and a GeForce 256. I could probably crank the graphics up quite a bit and still get good performance. Now all I need to do is buy an extra USB mouse for my iBook -- FPS games and trackpads don't mix.

Both my iBook and my Wintel PC are 600mHz, so the iBook is faster.

Graeme, where are the Mac OS X binaries? :) I took my iBook to the parents' for Thanksgiving and really wanted to play some Wolfenstein on it. Unfortunately, the harddrive on my mother's E-machine didn't have enough free space to install Wolf. :(

Not really. The system that Mac OS X uses is from the NeXT OS. So, it predates Windows 2000.

And now this same system is now in use in Mac OS X. It's pretty neat. The title (and tool, I think) bar of each window in the background is transparent. You can make your CLI transparent. The clock app they ship can reside on your desktop at different levels of user-configurable transparency. The dock background is transparent.

    It's pretty neat.

  6. Cube on Concept PC 2001 · · Score: 2

This seems to me that HP was inspired by Apple's Cube. The color scheme looks the same (from the tiny pictures), they tried to minimize cables (Cube had ADC & AirPort), a slot load optical drive, and they are using airflow to control the temperature just like the Cube.

  7. Re:What's the point? on Concept PC 2001 · · Score: 2

Apple Display Connector (ADC) is much better. It runs power, signal, and USB through the same cable into the same jack. You still only need one cable, and it is much cheaper.

"the developers have the option of making them 16:9 - not by letterboxing, but by having more horizontal resolution."

PlayStation games that support 16:9 TVs, do so by creating an anamorphic game image. This is the same way that widescreen DVDs work. It preserves vertical resolution.

PS - Plus, I don't have to worry about upgrading. But, I still have my PC for Wolfenstein.

  15. iFrame on Homemade Digital Picture Frames? · · Score: 1, Troll

Apple needs to make a digital picture frame. They've gone completley LCD now (aside from the iMac), and everyone knows they are the king of product design. Just imagine a nice frame that can hang on your wall either in landscape or portrait mode (with intelligence), that uses an AirPort to display pictures off of your home LAN or its internal memory (8MB should be sufficient) (in case the fileserver goes down).
