From the reviews I've read, they suck with Linux support. Also ethernet _sounds_ very sweet, but it uses some odd proprietary protocol (not windows shares, not ftp).
Otherwise, those things look neat.

Displacement mapping is doable nowadays, just use the surfaces depth value plus the added depth from the bump map, and adjust the Z-buffer accordingly, it can be done.. Along with a little parallax mapping. In another year it'll be a totally common effect seen in games:) fun fun
Why don't SCO And Linspire join forces, along with an army of fingernails and chalkboards. And some of those things they sell on mexican streetcorners that click loudly when you shake them.
You mean, we're still at 800x600? Oh hell, great, why didn't someone tell me this, I've been like, totally visualising my site being viewed in 1024x768.. WHY DIDN'T SOMEONE TELL ME? FOR THE LOVE OF GOD WHY?! How will I live with myself after this..
No seriously, I'm apparently a little ahead of the curve here, aren't 17" monitors pretty standard now? 800x600 looks rather pixely on a 17 incher. Oh well.
This seems like a crazy idea, but it could seriously be useful. Making an online library of a huge pile of 3D models for example? That could greatly help game development projects.. Rather than opening model after model trying to remember which one is which, you could dump them all into a repository and have a handy-dandy php/opengl script generate little thumbnails for them all.. Awesome.
..some Dreamworks modeler decides to make a little render of princess fiona naked, then all hell breaks loose. Anyone else seen that Dr. Ross render from the FF movie? It could haaappen..
I remember looking at one of those cheapo USB video capture devices at best buy, it was on sale so I was suffering from an impulsive desire to purchase it. Anyway, I (stupidly) ask one of the best buy salesmen if he knew anything about the item, to my suprise he says "Oh, someone here owns one of these, I'll go ask them".. Guy disappears for a good 5 minutes, finally comes back..
"It captures video"... Thanks, is that what the box meant by "video capture" ?.
And then on a separate occasion, I was looking at a PCI TV tuner card (relatively new device at the time), I asked if the salesman might be aware of any problems involving conflicts with my current graphics card, just.. ya know, curious if he's heard any feedback on the product.
He grabs the box, stares at it, flips it around, stares some more
Hands it back to me and says "It's supported by windows 98"
Thanks again genius..
And now a friend of mine works at a local best buy, he hears a lot of good crap, like "Do you sell wireless cable?"
Speaking of OpenSSL, I swear that thing is haunted.. I tried doing some work with it, and had a similar problem, like it'd work until I ran a function a couple times involving RSA key encryption.. Something to do with RSA_Free something-or-other claimed to 'free' the memory associated with a key pointer, but I somehow determined it really _wasnt_ doing that...
Blender has excellent support for import/export scripts written in python. If you do a little digging around on the blender sites I'm sure you'd find a variety of 3ds importer/exporters available.
It's not really learning to compensate for not having an undo feature, as much as learning how blender works..
The only time I ever really NEED an undo feature is in mesh editing mode. But when I'm in object mode, it's possible to clear the rotation/scale/transform of an object with a couple mouse clicks, then simply re-position your object however you like it..
The lack of undo was my biggest complaint at first, and now I really don't care about it.
Lindows wasn't a sponsor at the time I'm quite sure, if my memory serves me right. Also the submission system on kde-look allows you specify a license, and at the time the wallpapers were posted, they didn't have that feature.
It was about 5 or 6pm when I realized it was valentines day, and I didn't get anything either.. Oh well, back to coding..
Why does it seem like all the recent Ask Slashdots have been posted by ungrateful whiny bastards?
"Help, I've got too much bandwidth, why do I have so much?" "I found a truck in my yard full of AMD64 machines" "The stick I use for beating supermodels off of me is broken, what can I do? They won't stop touching me?"
My Radeon 9800 Pro works rather nicely on my gentoo box, although not quite as fast as in windows, it still gets the job done at a satisfactory level (enough to play UT2k3 at a more than reasonable framerate).

I punched our 72" plasma display and now it's not woooorking.. GET ME A NEW ONE NOW

You mean the flash animation that originally included 3 of my original pieces of art which they never acquired permission to use?
Read 'bout it here

Man, this oatmeal is salty.
.. they didn't call it PhoneLinAIM?
..you're saying I can email myself to determine if I'm a dummy?
I guess I should read the article..
(cackles)
So women are literal objects in this game? A new level of game realism is upon us! Horray!
(I'm kidding, don't hurt me)
What about Shogun: Total War, or Mexico: Total Enchilada?
er, wait, that second one was cancelled.

Robertson and Carmony want Linspire to become the Microsoft of the Linux world, that's the problem... And they see nothing wrong with that.
Bring on the FUD-BUS!

In other words, I don't think you're crazy

I didn't give them permission, because they never asked for it.
