    Why a company with known history like that is allowed to continue its sick practices is beyond me.

    I have recently migrated 2 of my servers from MySQL to MariaDB with about 1,5mil unique users. The only problems i had were some configuration (my.cnf) changes. Except that, none at all.

    802.11ac isn't out yet but I have little hope of it really helping. I live in an apartment building I can already see 50+ routers on 2.4 & 10+ ON 5GH.

    I just don't see that much of a benefit unless the congestion avoidance is really better than 102.11n.

I think this invention will be of more help: http://hardware.slashdot.org/story/12/10/23/1946248/increasing-wireless-network-speed-by-1000-by-replacing-packets-with-algebra It works basically "repair data" in RAR archives for WiFi networks, so distorted/damaged packets can be recovered even if their checksums don't match.

    I am Polish and actually, it is only our Prime Minister which is trying to manipulate the public into thinking that acta will not be ratified.

    Most of us is pretty sure that it is only a suspension, not complete stop. Polish government has a long history of lying and manipulating us, so they are waiting for the protests to chill out and will push ACTA at other time.

    We are now in the process of collecting signatures for a referendum, so we can kill ACTA once and for all. If that will not be enough, it may even be neccessary to remove the government.

    The security we (Linux users) always wanted was supposed to be on software level, not on hardware level.

    Doing anything like this on hardware level is definately anti-competitive.

    As a casual gamer, I can confidently state that MMORPG's are not for casual players but only for hardcore gamers willing to spend large quantities of time and money. I have yet to encounter and MMORPG that doesn't feel like endless grinding within the first hour of play.

    Actually, there is one. Vendetta Online does not require a lot of grinding. Being good is 75-90% skill, and only 10-25% gear. A veteran player can very easily kick ass of a newbie who has the best gear avaiable. In VO, it only takes 1-3 weeks of play to grind up to playable levels, so you can fight with the best. However Vendetta a big disadvantage comparing to WOW or other MMOs: it is boring, there isn't much happening there really.

    Since bitcoins can be destroyed through abandonment, I predict that bitcoins will become impossible to continue for a long term basis.

    Completely untrue. Since the protocol allows extreme divisability (even 100+ digits), whole network could run even or 1 BTC (1 unit of currency). So even if you destroy 99% bitcoins in existence, the market still will do fine.

    I think that the fact, that there is no proof that piracy as whole damages the industry is what makes it alright.
    Just think for a moment: If piracy damaged the industry, wouldn't the most pirated titles be also the most financially unsuccessful titles ?
    Why is this in reverse, and most pirated titles are almost always the most earning titles ? Weird paradox.

    I'm not going to 'deprive myself' of a place to sleep so I'll pick the lock (in a non-damaging way) of your front door and sleep in a spare room in your house. No cost to you so any complaints about my squatting are just based on stupid orthodox morality.

    Bad example. What if 50.000 people did the same and slept in spare room of your house ? Wouldn't the bed wear out, damage or something ? Wouldn't the floor get dirty, so you had to make _extra_ ( = cost) effort to clean it ? Phisical things slowly lose their value when they are used by someone. This does not apply to intelectual property. And there is absolutely no real evidence that piracy is doing any harm to the industry... There is a logical paradox: why the titles that are most pirated also earn the most money ? Logically, if piracy damages industry, the _most pirated_ titles should be also the _most unsuccessful_ in sales.
