Even in the more common languages that have 3 genders(m/f/n), I can grasp it well enough to understand the language, but I sure as heck don't understand the logic behind calling a computer (in French for instance) a female object. Personally (as a navtive English speaker (which gives me bias)) a computer, and most other nouns should be neutral.
Then again, English is lacking in a good neutral gender, single 3rd person pronoun.
So, just block the ads. I would be impressed if even Mircrosoft was powerful enough to say, "2% of users didnt' actually view the ads, but pay us for them anyway!"
Yes, you are missing something. While that would change the MD5 of the tarball, the unique data of intererst is hidden in one of the actual binary files.
Whats so bad about the biathlon? It's a lot closer to the orignial Greek events (good combat skills) then say, diving, or even football (of any definition)
Actually, what the webmasters might do then, is go back to the old "Best viewed in" tags, to persuade people to move away from IE 5/6, and on to something else...
And, how are phones any different? Yes, it's bigger that a device with just a phone, same as a the 1 piece home theater is bigger than just a dvd player. Both of these however, are smaller an individual phone, camera, pda ; dvd player, reciever, amp.
The motivations for buying the all-in-one vs. the piecemeal setup, is the same for both the cell phone and the home theater. Each has their own pros/cons for getting.
But the real advantage of trusted computing is to make it so that you can boot a machine and be certain that it is not running any type of trojan or malware
The ONLY way of insuring that a computer isn't running trojans, malware etc, is to prevent the USER from installing anything. (Live CD's come to mind...) If the user can install programs, they can (unintentionally) install malware.
In japan, the toll calls can come from the same area code as normal ones? That would seem quite ripe for abuse, if you could declare any number to be a toll call...
Now the other way I could read that is that they aren't true toll calls which, for example in the US would be something like 1-900-555-1212) but simply extortion schemes that try and arbitrarily charge you money.
Or perhaps, there is yet another possibility I have not thought of....
Why should.com be American? The.us (and all the other country-code TLDs) were created for a reason. I would say.com, if it exists at all, should be aimed towards more international things.
I actually prefer the data from the CIA Factbook: (Especially, since that page gives the impression it is from 1997)
Chinese, Mandarin 14.37% Hindi 6.02% English 5.61% Spanish 5.59% Bengali 3.4% Portuguese 2.63% Russian 2.75% Japanese 2.06% German, Standard 1.64% Korean 1.28% French 1.27%
note: percents are for "first language" speakers only
These numbers I assume also take into account people who are living out side the "typcial area" for their language (for instance, why would you (apparently) not count the spanish speakers living in the USA?)
Heck, to really nitpick, genlock is technically "blacker than black"
Yes, and they are. 700MB is 1 cd, 1.4GB is 2 cds.
And if neither person has car insurance? Or say they hit something not covered by insurance, say my mailbox, my house, or me.

Oh, not long at all.. I never claimed that it was fool proof... just saying there was slightly more the the parent had thought..

I doubt that... There would have been a F series of fighter planes no matter what.

But oddly there is a difference bettween then and every other buisness. They are part of the media.
And alot sooner than you would think... Once you cross the heliopause, the solar wind is basically moot.

Well, the reason people in the US don't use the DECT standard is that it is a standard by ETSI.

Hmm.... what about those 100% IBM compatable PC's people used to sell... (Or in fact anyother company that sells aftermarket parts)
Yes, there is. Well, if /. actually used CSS, there would be.
But only if user B could reasonably assume that the software would work for future versions of that same hardware.
I suppose they might black list you.. not sure what good it would do considering you would be in jail, but hey, if it makes the airlines happy...
So, according to you, anarcists, favor death over life? (Never mind the fact that ever increasing entropy is only really true at the universe level)

Yes, I agree. How does one aid and abbet somone by letting them pay you $3.3 million?
