Yeah, I guess that sucks--probably why I'm not a theif.
Thief? That's not stealing, dude, that's stuff like: -extortion -recklessly endangering human life -hacking, dmca violations etc -probably murder/manslaughter (you'd likely kill all/most people on board that plane. As others have stated, balance of the airplane would be thrown off... that's bad)
In fact I wouldn't be too surprised if the government convicted you as a terrorist.
You really haven't thought this one through, dude;)
There's a lot of hardware to interface to T1/E1, ISDN BRI, modems, faxes etc. Dealing with analog lines, generating / recognising pulse dialling / DTMF, echo cancellation, mostly DSP stuff (although I bet modern CPUs can easily do the DSP stuff now).
Not sure is Asterix handles all that...
Yeah it handles all that plus voice mail, conference calls, sending voice mail as email attachments and a slew of other features. Also, the company that produces Asterisk, Digium, produce a number of devices such as T1/E1 cards etc that are designed/tested for Asterisk. The hardware seems solid and was quite straight-forward to install.
The second thing is, this sort of planning happens all the time at every big company.
Yeah I've seen people steal other director's stocks before: It's really ugly and nasty.
I've seen companies held for ransom for the sake of stealing another director's stock. I've seen creators of companies have breakdowns as they're told to relinquish their stock or have their company destroyed by the new directors.
I'm sure it happens all the time but there's never any company goals driving it: it's just good ol' fashioned personal greed.
What sorts of structural injustices does U.S. culture impose on its own citizens that even compares to the examples given by the grandparent? Get a grip, idiot.
Whoa dude, you're really asking for it. How about we start with: - Abortion - Gay marriage - Janet Jackson's breasts - Software patents - The Patriot Act - The DMCA
He's five foot-two, and he's six feet-four, He fights with missiles and with spears. He's all of thirty-one, and he's only seventeen, Been a soldier for a thousand years.
He'a a Catholic, a Hindu, an Atheist, a Jain, A Buddhist and a Baptist and a Jew. And he knows he shouldn't kill, And he knows he always will, Kill you for me my friend and me for you.
And he's fighting for Canada, He's fighting for France, He's fighting for the USA, And he's fighting for the Russians, And he's fighting for Japan, And he thinks we'll put an end to war this way.
And he's fighting for Democracy, He's fighting for the Reds, He says it's for the peace of all. He's the one who must decide, Who's to live and who's to die, And he never sees the writing on the wall.
But without him, How would Hitler have condemned him at Dachau? Without him Caesar would have stood alone, He's the one who gives his body As a weapon of the war, And without him all this killing can't go on.
He's the Universal Soldier and he really is to blame, His orders come from far away no more, They come from here and there and you and me, And brothers can't you see, This is not the way we put the end to war.
Like it or not, and whether the rfc's require it or not, there are an awful lot of people out there using mail servers setup by people completely and utterly unqualified to maintain them.
Yes that's true. I tell them to fix their MTA.
Same for requiring reverse dns, spf records, etc. Use any of these for hard rejection, and you're nuts. (Hear me AOL?)
Well I do. The spam situation is out of control. If the problem is that a remote MTA doesn't have a proper reverse DNS entry for instance, that needs to be fixed. Why should I modify my MTA to support other people's broken ones?
I used to be a Qmail fan. I had a couple of Qmail+Patches mailservers that stayed up and fairly secure for years. For the past few years though, it's Postfix all the way for me.
You need to apply about 50 patches to get a decent Qmail MTA, at which time all the security guarantees vanish. This is a problem because Dan seems unwilling to apply the patches that make Qmail a usable MTA. Big concurrency patch anyone?
wtf is it with Dan Bernstien's World?
He couldn't use standard SysV init scripts to start Qmail, no... we need the "supervise" and/services cruft! Xinetd? Nahh fuck it, I'll write "ucspi-tcp" instead and force that down everyone's throat. Configuration files in/etc? Nahh, we'll create some wierd-ass Bernstien World hierarchy for that too.
Dr B's software is mostly useful in theory, not in practise.
Just use Postfix or Exim: you'll save yourself a lot of pain. It doesn't treat your Unix box like it's just a mere application launcher.
And yes, it is VERY difficult to regain page ranking.
Really? That wasn't my experience. Of course with something like this YMMV...
We set up an Australian Music Podcasting site: http://www.roocast.com/ The page title was "Australian Music Podcasts" and our Google Pagerank was pretty good. Searching for "Australian Music Podcasts" gets Roocast as number 1. Wooties.
Then someone in the company changed the page title to "it's a roocast!" which is our slogan. All of a sudden our pagerank *sucked*: we literally dropped off the map.
As soon as we saw this we reverted the changes to the page title. It took a couple of days for us to get our rank right back where it was. Google scans pretty regularly! I was impressed.
Then again, we're not some dodgy-ass worthless link farm. We produce content. Amazing that these days you can't get away with just linking to other's crud and expect to get paid. It reminds me of a Yosemite Sam line: "Why it's getting so a man can't earn a dishonest living no more!"
Agreed. And at least I'm not getting shot in the head from a half-mile away through a cement wall by some 11 year-old script kiddie before I even have the opportunity to shoot at someone, and then I have to move around as a ghost for five minutes waiting for the next match *coughcounterstrikecough*.
To be fair, Valve seem to be trying to address this issue. All the servers I play CS on are "VAC Secured" (Valve Anti-Cheat). Of course there are people that work around the VAC but not for long: 1. CS auto-updates now. It checks for updates as soon as you start Steam 2. The server validates the client game program/data. If you found a way to work around this you could be in busines but then comes (3) 3. In cases where the VAC does not detect a cheat, the cheater usually gets demoed by a pissed-off 14yo with too much time on his hands who writes to the GameOps and has the cheater's CD Key banned. 4. If someone starts playing with a speed hack or whatever, often everyone will just piss off to another server and leave the cheater on their own to cheat in isolation.
Even without cheaters CS can seem impossible. CS is a strategy game. Stay back: let someone else be cannon fodder, camp in a dark area, use the knife, get behind the enemy or flank them... do stuff that's unexpected. If you treat it like a FPS where you run into the enemy, guns blazing you'll get yourself killed very quickly.
If you're willing to have another go... join a CS Zombie Horde server. It's a team game against knife-weilding zombie bots (but you can choose to be a zombie to "even up the teams"). Zombies are only damaged by headshots. It's a pretty awesome mod that has a bit of a fun "Horror movie" feel to it.
Yeah, I guess that sucks--probably why I'm not a theif.

Would there be such a thread debating this unless the submitter/editor had seen it fit to mention this in the introduction?
