Companies like that don't go bankrupt, small parts of them do. Universal is bringing out and movie based on a tv series, and they place the tv series on a channel they own in the weeks leading up to the opening of the movie. That seems like planning.
I don't believe this is true. Universal didn't want TV rights, so they negotiated and bought movie rights. So yes, you can't make a tv series without the rights, but someone could invest in those rights if they wanted too..
If Google was headed that way, they would have been there by now. They are huge. They are "standard".
Oh no, they are heading that way. With their new design of Google groups which many people, myself include find has greatly reduced readablity and navigability - and they don't care. And with the way they refuse to give the user the right to store his password in his MSIE browser, etc etc. I think they have peaked, thats not to say they aren't going to make some wonderfull inventions on their way down - when behemoths fall it can take decades.
No, that you think its ok to slaughter a ton if innocent civilians just because they are Japanese is. All this sympathy for the victims of the atomic bombings, but nary a word about Japan's victims?
Because we were not talking about them. Victims are victims. We were talking about your evil attitude of holding everybody guilty. Alqueda holds all americans responsible for that their presidents have done - you think that is fair? Its a sick mindset.
The page itself is a case of bad design: Thumbnails should be direct links, so people can quickly quick them open in tabs - as opposed to this where there is a javascript on each link which only allows you to open one - and totally leave out browsers who do not have (or have enabled) javascript.
If you do something that would create a paradox time 'splits' and creates a new timeline/dimension. If you left in timeline A you return in timeline B. Simple:)
Every torrent I've ever downloaded with over about 50 peers maxed out my broadband connection, up and down, if I let it.
And any I've tried has always been slow as an evil year - probably because their system relies on fast upload as well, if you have fast download but slow upload you can stick it. Getting the new patch for World of warcraft (which they distributed via bittorrent technology) is an agonizing wait.
Anyway, a few months ago I read the Rateless paper, and thought "Gee, I should code this and release it under the GPL... It would be great for P2P apps!" But soon after I finished its implementation, I discovered that all the ideas authored in the Rateless paper were actually covered by patents of Digital Fountain [digitalfountain.com], meaning that Petar's company, Rateless [rateless.com], had to develop a different, proprietary coding mechanism that is outside the patents of DF, and I can't release my code!
The major reason people still stick to them? MONEY! Contarary to the PR, the monetary systems really slow down inventions. Look how long people stuck to MSDos because it would be expensive to change over. Or why Windows was crap because it had to be compatible.
If money was no object and people could toss out everything and go on to the next new thing, development would be a lot further along.
Ah, but how do you pay for this, someone is bound to say - well that requires a social reform and is a totally different story.
Everyone complains to some extent. But if you observe people for a while, it becomes apparant that there are more than the fair share of geeks who complain excessively, and don't do a damn thing to correct or make better the things they are complaining about.
Yack yack yack. 99% of the things i complain about I CAN'T do anything about.
Love yourself first and good relationships will follow. This is difficult, but it's the key ingredient to any successful relationship. If you know who you are and you love who you are, people will love and respect you that much more.

Wow, this racist drivel gets moderated Insightful? How slashdot has fallen.
Forget torrents we need mirrors!

Release on P2P! *g*
..for all those with a hardware chip which plays back 'ordinary' (divx5) back.

- Setup a web interface for accessing email. The password should change automatically after every successful login.
Something every tom dick and harry knows how to do.
- Knoppix. Boot off your own software, check email or surf, then reboot back to the (likely) infect operating system.
Assuming you can get it to connect to the net afterwards...
But why would the planet want to "bring balance"?
And its Coruscant btw.
How did Yoda go so senile so quickly?
If as old you be, think as well you will not.
But are there major surpises? "I am your father" is more like bad soapopera.
If you are fit and sexy by definition you can't be a geek.

Instead of wallowing in your self pity, do something about it maybe?
Well smartass, people are in the situation because they CAN'T do something about it.

And if you can't, go kill yourself. *sigh*
To qualify as a sport, you must sweat.
So sex is a sport?
