And the brainwashing is going fine as well - witness the comments saying "profane" words aren't free speech or protected. Ah, to live in a free country where we can still say "FUCK" in primetime.
Its odd, it worked fine for me on Xp - but then when i went over to Windows 7 it ended up blocking all connections (including itself (if you click update, it should be able to check for updates, but it just froze itself)) - and there was nobody who knew why.
Chrome OS is essentially a browser with enough support wheels to boot itself - its not a real OS - and NOTHING I would want. Forget it Google - I want a tablet (padd) which runs Android - not your Chrome crap. You might as well stop trying to sabotage that, the sooner the better (especially if you wish to try and hang to your "do no evil" motto)
"But if they think that Google, who provides [techcrunch.com] about 85% of Mozilla's total revenue, is going to sit back and let them take the technical lead over Chrome, they're nuts."
And if you think google gives a shit which browser is fastest you are nuts. They want browsers to be "fast enough" and javascript, and once they reach that bar it doesn't matter anymore. They might as well just discontinue chrome. Chrome is an expensive, not an income source.
"In ye olde days when java script was just used to pull up a popup or block your right clicks it wasn't so important, but nowadays most popular sites are full of it. Whenever you need 'dynamic' content on a web page - that's Javascript.
Even/. by the way."
And all of it makes the browsing "experience" worse.
"Maybe you should consider a browser that doesn't need to be bogged down to death to be useable."
Doesn't exist.
"One of the reasons why I use Opera, for example, it's precisely that it does all the stuff I want it to do without me needing to scrape around the web to get extensions that kill it."
Good for you - one of the reasons I don't use Opera is that its a piece of badly designed crap - which for one thing doesn't allow you to change font sizes on the fly (to make pages actually readable) but only allows you to zoom into them as a picture. And the way you can expand it is a joke and lamely designed. Good luck to you.
"I wish Firefox would stop trying to compete in Javascript and go back to one of the biggest reasons they started the project: speed of the browser itself. That means it should open instantaneously and have low overhead--even with the usual plugins installed (AdBlock, NoScript, etc)."
Oh how I agree with you! Its such an insult they can render some game fast when the browser it self is slow and sluggish.
Firefox HAS the technical lead over chrome - chrome is a pathetically primitive browser. Who cares about page rendering speed - a few seconds more or less is irrelevant - when we all have terabyte connections then it might matter. You can't even adjust the font size in Chrome! Those discriminative idiots at google apparently don't understand that some of us need to make fonts larger to read them - yeah sure you can zoom into the page as A PICTURE - but that you have a little square open to a huge line and you have to scroll left and right for each line -totally pathetic.
On a computer you have can a firewall - you can't on a phone. Also for Android, because googles stupid design, if an app wants to include adds it needs to have internet access. So everything wants to go on the internet.
What they should have done was have an OS module which returns the adds, so the app didn't need internet access.

"(And the exploit is still blocked by new firmwares, so it's still not terribly exciting.)"
But it means they will have to update the firmware, perhaps they will actually include something interesting.

So out it went.
Don't have children! Then no grand children.
Problem solved!
Good thing it has jumped the shark.
XMBC is for minority nerds, this is for everybody else.

Ruse sucks - so you don't have to waste any time on it (was demoed on steam)
Just have someone go out with the thing each day and throw the trash over the fence to the neighbor.
Its just you people being incompetent (or just inventing a handy excuse) - it works very well here in Europ.
Yeah, just like Blizzard having peoples CC numbers prevents gold farmers in World of Warcraft ... oh wait...
I watch video on the TV not in the browser.

tldr;
As opposed to now where its some badly trained monkey who always assumes its the users fault, and give you the runaround until you give up.
I think that's a more interesting question.

Googles Padd, due to be released in 2012 !
(or so the Guardian of Forever tells me - off the record)
Bullshit. The Mozilla foundation is not a charity nor is giving them money charity.
With a name like that - how can it fail!
NOT following the generals suggestion does not equate to incompetent.
Soldiers always want more war - that is not what is always wanted by society at large.
