It's well known that hollywood has some...unique book-keeping (to say the least) and the music biz is no different. I'm sure members of bands like No Doubt, Limp Bizkit, Foo Fighters (all of whom have gold albums) are living well. So even if they are making $160,000 above board, they are getting some gravy somewhere. To live well in CA takes a buttload more than 40K annually. So this math doesn't work.
It would be ironic if these cartoons turned out to have better charater and story development than the EPs 1-3. I've thought for a long time that Lucas' directing is part of the problem, and now we will see what these characters can do in somebody else's hands.
This does not bode well for Tom Hanks.

Millions of dollars in federal grant money later, do you think anyone gives a rat's ass? There are people who have careers for life studying what happens when you point an "L" at a mirror! This is about gravy, man! Don't bother us with details like "how do you verify that it's calibrated?". There's a board of directors who have pensions! Nice little retirement nesteggs! Some of these people are responsible for the Super Monkey Collider! Don't ask such stupid questions!!!

This is all about trying to fill in the billions is dollars in debt that Davis managed to hide until after he was re-elected. Combined with the energy boondogles of the last few years, and that there are no new plans for power plants to be built in CA, state residents should be pissed.
1) There is a much wider range of subject matter in manga. 80% or more of American comics are about superheroes, superpowers, and similar themes. In contrast, there is a manga reflecting almost every aspect of Japanese society.
2) Consistency. American monthly comics practice a certain bait-and-switch. A good team will come in on a title and establish a readership. They will stay with that comic for a length of time, and then move to a different title to help boost numbers. A new (usually inferior) team takes over, and the series will coast on the reputation of the first team. In manga, a comic series almost always stays in the hands of it's creator and his/her studio.
3) Maturity level. Manga are geared towards adult readers more often than American comics. That is not to say there are no American comics written for adults, but that it is more the norm in manga. And by adult, I don't mean only T&A. Manga is often times smartly written and executed.
4) Manga takes more influences from American cinema than from American comics. And the best American comic writers and artists are learning key lessons from manga. More thought goes into "camera angles", motion, background art, prop design, and many things that manga has long been very strong on. "The Ultimates" (Marvel's Avengers re-boot) is a good example of an American title using manga style.
On April Fools Day a few years ago, www.starwars.com changed their site to an all ascii, BBS style format for a day. The date on the site was April 1, 1980. The lead stories were about Star Wars soon coming to VHS and Beta, the upcoming release of The Empire Strikes Back, and lot of other cool retro touches.
Unfortunately, I never saw it. I learned about it after, and have never found a mirror.
It would be VERY cool if somebody knew where a copy of this one day tribute to ASCII BBS sites could be seen.
YOU'RE going to law school and you have the balls to lecture ME about union busting? Hypocrite.
My wife once fucked up by joining a telecommunications union a month before US West (now Qwest) went on strike. She gave them her loyalty as she sat out of three months of income, and three weeks after the strike was over, she was fired as part of a downsizing. The union did nothing to help her. Didn't line her up with a new job. Nothing.
Unionizing the IT sector is the FASTEST way to make companies send these jobs overseas.
Also, I didn't go to school for four years to join a union. I do some private web development. I would be considered a scab worker if unions took hold. Why should I give n% of my income to a union if I work for myself and have no employees?
So stop voting for higher taxes.

If you don't like seeing companies leave to US, why do you not spend more time considering the role of higher taxes in forcing companies to make the exodus? On a smaller scale, we are seeing people leave California due to high taxes and the cost of living.
The US govt. needs to get spending under control so it can stabilize it's tax base. Also, implimenting a "Flat Tax" would eliminate the 100,000 pages of our broken tax laws and take the politics out of paying taxes. Much of the power in Washington is directly tied to the trading of tax favors for campaign contributions.
I thought nicotine was a pesticide (If I'm wrong you can blame "molecule" in Xscreensaver). There is no need to genetically engineer anything, merely avoid the use of pesticides.

SCO has taken the dark path - they can't inovate, so they litigate.
They now hire one or more expensive attorneys who will drink all of the company's money in billable hours with no gaurantee of a positive outcome. It is not in Boies' personal best interest to take this to trial in a timely manner. This thing is a cash cow! And even once this goes to court, there is prior art, expert witnesses, appeals, etc...
During this time SCO isn't making money.
IBM isn't going to lay down for this one. They've invested billions in Linux, and IBM employees a few lawyers too, so I'm told. IBM and the other companies with a stake in Linux can bury SCO in a shitload of paperwork, court fillings, etc... and Boies finds himself with more billable hours.
To make a long story stort, if this is a last ditch effort to save the company, they will go broke before they ever see a dime. And once the company goes broke, they aren't a problem to us anymore.

Skateboard - $40-$60
Solution - sue the skateboard companies!
