To be fair, it might actually be citrix that is the problem rather than windows but I see them as all part of the same problem.

that's definitely a citrix issue. I have never seen this issue while using RDP, I use dual 1440p monitors at home to remote into my work PC and it flawlessly connects and changes scaling to an appropriate resolution (1440p). I'm then able to administer Windows and Linux systems just like I'm at my desk at work.

windows takes 15+ minutes to login

That's definitely a broken environment. They've either overloaded the SAN/Storage (for things like vSAN/hyperconverged storage) if it's a VDI/TS instance, your local PC has a completely broken enviroment and needs to be wiped to the default OS (i'm leaning this way with stuff like cygwin installed) or your entire IT infrastructure team is completely incompetent and needs to be replaced by first year college students for superior job performance. I have desktop PCs running 3rd generation i5's/8gb ram/7200 rpm drives that will sign into your desktop from the login screen in about 20 seconds that are applying adequate security policies. 15+ minutes is broken and is your IT team/upper managements' fault, not windows.

Why yes it can actually: https://github.com/raspberrypi.... It works really well for snes and nes emulation but you have to tweak settings a bit in the retroarch config to get it pixel perfect. I'm really enjoying 240p on my Trinitron CRT using the zune av cables. I've preordered a Retrotink-C hat for component output but the composite output is just fine if you're feeling nostalgic.

  5. How about being stuck on a road in a snowstorm without communication? There are reasons why we shouldn't disable people's phones. I would argue for nagware - every hour, have a message pop up telling you there is a safety issue and asking you to return your phone to a Verizon store for a free replacement or something. Seems like a good balance between keeping devices safe and people losing critical communication.

I would argue (as someone who had the Note 7 and returned it over 1.5 months ago) that the time for minor annoyance popups is over. I think it should be more like you get a permanent popup that asks you to return the phone and that only the phone dialer & contacts app works on the phone so you aren't stranded. I get wanting to keep the Note 7 (best phone I ever owned other then the whole fire issue) but at this point you are putting others at risk because you don't want to give it up.

Speak for yourself. I run both Windows 8 and Windows 7 machines, and my Windows 7 machines are demonstrably more stable and less buggy than my Windows 8 one. (Note: I say one because I've had such a piss-poor experience with Windows 8, which rapidly degrades in performance to the point of near-unusability. And even straight out of the box with a fresh install, it likes to do things such as take multiple *minutes* before task manager appears on a core i5 machine with 8GB of RAM and 50% CPU utilization or less. There's no way I'm buying another machine with Windows 8, let alone installing it on one. If I could downgrade to Win7 without needing to pay for an OS when I already paid for Win8, I'd do it in a heartbeat. And no, Linux is not an option for people who need to use real software.) Windows 8 is a total dog, and has been from the day it shipped, even before one takes into account the absolutely godawful UI.

Something is horribly wrong with your install. You either A) have a hardware fault somewhere on the workstation, B) have installed some kind of horrifically incompatible driver/software (windows XP-era, is that you?) or C) have managed to get a root kit/malware/adware/virus/trojan on your workstation. I have a ton of windows 8 machines in my house, everything from a surface pro to a hand built desktop to a gaming laptop and they are fast and have no visible glitches. all of my roommates are on 8 as well with no issues.
