why the fuck keep americans acting like there is nothing outside the US of A?
you see it almost everywhere. like, in this question.
dude. there _are_ cars outside the usa. they're even used.
back on topic. rover 214, average fuel usage i had so far: around 7l premium / 100km. do the fucking conversion into miles per gallon yourself. (imperial miles? nautical miles? imperial gallons? american gallons?)
when oh when will the last few countries come to SI heaven.
might be the reason why i don't see optus too often in my spamcop results.
german t-online has something like that, too. they change the from: adress of any outgoing mail to the official customer adress, unless you use a different smtp server which you have to pay for.
I've been using SuSE since when it wasn't SuSE yet, but just slack, sls and some other crammed together on a single CD (We're talking about 0.97 kernel here). I've tested Red Hat, Mandrake, Debian and Gentoo in the meantime, and I came back to SuSE every time.
Right now I'm running SuSE 8.0 on my Firewall/Server, 9.0 on my Desktop and 9.1 on my laptop. If that doesn't call for little troubles...
If I look at the laptop as a stand-alone machine, it just works. 3D (ati rage 128) works.. well, not really good compared to the GF4Ti in my desktop, but for a R128 its ok. UT is playable at 800x600 and thats ok for that laptop. Sound, USB, Network, it all works ok. And you gotta love SCPM. The internal modem doesn't work. Ah well, not suse's fault, 3com should release either driver or specs so that someone else can hack a driver together.
Gnome does not work, but hell, I'm not using it anyways...
Now for the quirks, sorted into standalone quirks and network quirks;)
standalone: the suse mailing list says USB memory sticks give trouble. Can't verify, dont have one. My casio R41 attaches as a storage device and works ok. Logitech Wireless Laptop Mouse works, too. Another point of trouble is SuSE's switch to Unicode for the default encoding. Gives you some piece of KDE starting weirdness when you install as an update or restore $HOME from wherever after a fresh install because some pathnames are now unicode but in the config files are still ISO8859-15 encoded, but suse provides a simple script to fix that once and for all. Btw, suse switched from a min UID of 500 to a min UID of 1000 for freshly created users, so there's another point of pain.
networked troubles: the switch to unicode and higher default uids really spells T-R-O-U-B-L-E when you're in a NIS/NFS/Automounter setup on a lan with different versions of SuSE linux... gotta figure out how to pre-fix that before I install it on my desktop box.
And a comment for all who complain that it's so hard to find precompiled stuff fore suse, compared to redhat: 1. why do you think SuSE pro comes on 2 DVDs? 2. ever tried packman (http://packman.links2linux.de)?
because you don't see the difference between giving stuff away for free to induce addiction, and giving stuff away for free because you want your stuff to be free as in speech?
so it irritated you that you didnt knew what those scripts were, and what they did? but it never occured to you to actually look into those scripts?... nuff said.
ok, then you're one in a million... I have my laptop with me in such a case, and i'd rather have a cellular where the irda connection and modem functions work reliable (curses at nokia) than such a gizmo.
Webbrowsing on a 1/4 VGA screen? not really. and I already have a mp3 player that fits in a shirt pocket.
winpopup was a pager in the sense of sending & receiving short messages via the net; what's this is about is a tool to switch between virtual desktops.
here in germany, if you have a "no junk" sticker on your mailbox, you can actually sue the pizza delivery service that ignored it (if you so choose to).
Also, junkmail by snail mail is illegal if sent to private persons. Counts for fax, too.
what article? the few lines there that basically say "hey i'm so cool i built a telesope that is just a little bit different", then list a few items, the most of which dont have anything to do with the 'folded newtonian' or whatever he calls it?
As you already decided that you'll stick with film instead of following the digital craze, I assume you also want to learn. So you'll learn. Best way to learn: do it yourself. so, whatever cam you get, make sure that it never does the work for you; get one with as little electronics as you can find. a few red/green leds in the finder to warn of overexposure is ok, but more is too much.
some Names / brands (mostly old stuff, go for ebay or pawnshops): fuji stx2 -- that one was my first one exakta olympus om1 / om2 -- my dad had an om2
now that you're saddles with a cam, get a book as well. but dont ask me, I learned from my dad;)... you might consider at least reading a bit on processing as well...
I'm not a 'yank-hater'. I just dont like this "outside the usa is a great big void" attitude.
and a rover is an _english_ car, not american; i drive one because it was cheap to get.

one piece? good? wtf?
well, maybe its only the german dub thats crap, but i really dont like one piece.
then don't post it _here_. notify the USPO instead.
german t-online has something like that, too. they change the from: adress of any outgoing mail to the official customer adress, unless you use a different smtp server which you have to pay for.
why do i need an account there to download anything?
the virgin mary has seen jesus on a tortilla?
wtf... what's this world coming to...

... knoppix 3.4 was handed out at the cebit in march. at the booth of heise publishing house.
spamcop != spamhaus as far as i know...
at the cebit last saturday... really nice stuff.
(the 48" tft tv screens at the benq booth were nicer, tho.)

i mean, who really needs a phone that can do so much more than making phone calls?
because my mom has never had a computer before, so she wouldnt have to overcome old windows habits...
And before you ask, SuSE 9.0 (because i use it myself, have lots of customized packages for it, and because i have it right here on my desk).

dude, get a grip.

All I can see there is a list of Statements without proof.
Sorry, but I have seen better quality comparisons on the meade and celestron websites.

... tell me, HOW do you read any article that is mentioned here. I mean, have you ever read this at all?
