    Exactly. As when you are in full control, being in partial control means YOU still bear the burden of assessing the surroundings and reacting to such. Just as the rear-view cameras cannot see the entire rear end of most vehicles. etc.

    I fear until we have truly self-driving cars, all we are doing is breeding a bunch of inept drivers, who can't handle being in full control of their large and very heavy blunt objects.

    Whereas you are right to a certain extent, there are cases that victims can be partially to blame. In New York State, you can be ticketed for leaving an unattended car running. There have been cases of people reporting their car stolen, and getting ticketed when the police show up.

    I suppose it depends on the cost. The Samsung box was $329, which you could find a PC for about the same price. If they can bring it down to about $100, it would definitely be a lot more tempting.

    The issue is that the parts are not standard PC parts which is a different matter.

    Which would still make it cost prohibitive to do so, since it would be a mac-specific part. referring back to my original post, (the part of which you decided to ignore in your rebuttal)

    And need we talk about the fact that up until recently, you could only install (basically) Apple sanctioned expansion cards in their machines?

    which would appear to be making a comeback.

    And therein lies the crux of it. And the iMac and mini still have most of their parts soldered on.

    Just because the vendors refuse to make their drivers non-proprietary for linux, doesn't mean it isn't their fault.

    I'll believe that when I see it. So far, from what I've read, the only thing confirmed user-replaceable is the RAM. Everything else, even if it's possible, would void the warranty.

    Driver support is not Micosoft's fault. That's the Vendors. And need we talk about the fact that up until recently, you could only install (basically) Apple sanctioned expansion cards in their machines? Or their new way of doing things, which is "We'll package all of the hardware up in a neat little box, which you can't open, so we can force you to upgrade the hardware in order to upgrade the OS."

    Wait a sec...*who* educated them? Does the US gov't typically pay a foreign student's tuition, or do they have to either pay their own way or manage a grant/scholarship?.

    No, we pay for it. With the taxes that go to the public school system.

    because you cannot easily prevent a student from cheating with a phone that has outside access to the internet, messaging, etc. The calculators could not talk to each other (without a blatantly obvious cable).

    I'm still on a grandfathered unlimited AT&T account. I come nowhere near 3GB of usage each month (I'm almost always on WiFi), but I have no intention of dropping down to a cheaper account. It's maddening that I can't get tethering (officially...) without going to one of their crap capped plans.

    Exactly the reason I'm still on Verizon's unlimited. Although I try to use the mobile data as much as possible, and with 3rd party tethering apps. Hopefully something changes before my next contract so I don't have to shell out full price for a phone though...

    Ah, nice. being able to scan 12 slides in a pass is a nice feature. I just wish that someone had come up with an inexpensive slide scanner that accepts slide carousels. It would be so nice to not have to take all of the slides out of the cartridge, scan them, and put them back in.

    This. I was using my Handspring Visor as a Smartphone in the early 2000's via the Visorphone. I could call, I could browse the web, and even download apps (not that east on a 19k connection, but still...)

    I was referring to definition 1. : self-restraint; especially : a refraining from sexual intercourse.(albeit, more forced than voluntarily)

    However, your use of definition 2 works just as well.
