Do you really expect people to remember that for 9,000 years? By then, I expect the "Not" to have worn down or maybe the whole thing... When asked, people will first relate, "Oh, that said, 'Not the end of time'." which will be remembered as, "Something about the 'end of time'." passed on simply as "End of Time" and eventually will become the name of the clock: "End of Time Clock"

Someone come up with an analogy between the Earth and another planet, orbiting a similarly aged and sized sun of similar composition with a solar system containing 7 planets approximating the others around us, 1 dwarf planet(...), and a small blue/green planet with one notable sentient lifeform which may or may not be noticeably altering the planet's natural cycle of climate shifts! But from what I understand, is this makes sense. You are a news aggregator yourself in a way as well, right? So Google is paying you because you do part of their work for them.

  20. Re:Unintended consequences? on Should Google Be Forced To Pay For News? · · Score: 1

news.google.com serves the news producers already through increased traffic. The news websites can put whatever ads they want onto their own webpages. Google doesn't give the whole news story, just headline and (for a select few) a single sentence, linked back to the news website.

Also, I'm looking right now and I can't find a single ad on news.google.com. So where's Google's monetary benefit here?

  21. Re:I call Bullshit on Should Google Be Forced To Pay For News? · · Score: 3, Insightful

Exactly, Google isn't taking these news stories from them, rather it's generating traffic for the news websites. There's no reason Google should pay news sites to provide this service to the news sites.

If they don't like it they can be removed from Google easily, I'm sure.
