Both genders are victims of violence and men are also victims of gender-based prejudice such as being more likely to be imprisoned, homeless or to commit suicide. I'm not sure how avoiding uncomfortable situations or hiding certain things is going to empower women in any way. It just teaches them to be victims.
Your evidence for this, I suppose, is the UK where handguns were banned about 15 years ago. The thing is that hardly anyone owned a handgun before they were banned and required a licence to get. You can still get shotguns here legally but again you need a licence. The rise in violent crime is down to far more complex factors than not being able to shoot each other.

If that ever comes in, I'm getting a dash cam because I'm not being held responsible for some dickhead falling under my wheels because they didn't think one way Street signs applied to them. It would also be nice if the police stopped them from riding through pedestrian areas at break neck speed.
