Is it bad if I don't know what OnLive is? Is it worse that nothing other than "streaming game service" is the only piece of information in the submission?
The news channels can't educate people on what a rem is, or why its important, in under 30 seconds, and nobody knows that from school anymore, so the news spin cycle is forced to sensationalize.
Earth is a big place. You can pretty much guarantee that any rocky planet will have parts that look like other rocky planets. When will we get any science? We KNOW the place is a reddish, dusty, rocky desert. Move on.
The FLIGHT time is 1 hour, down from 5ish hours. You will still have 2 hours of crap security and airport "stuff" to do on either end. This is not a game changer for intercontinental flight. It's not like there's legions of people screaming "If you can get me there in an hour I'll pay a million dollars!" Concorde failed for a reason.
I'm a fan of these types of words - overuse of nebulous concepts like "The Cloud" and "Big Data" and "Infrastructure as a Service" helps clearly identify the office douchebags.
With Facebook seemingly half-populated by bots, are these numbers thrown around by these "online universities" really a reliable source? And how many "certified" IT people have you dealt with who were totally clueless?
iTunes cards - basically you need BB to convert your useless currency (their gift card) into usable currency (iTunes) - which you can then give away as presents or burn through yourself.
"Personally, I find myself wondering..."
What the heck, Slashdot? I can understand people submitting sensational posts, but you can EDIT them if you want to.
They're the OSNews of the 2010 decade.
noatime
Mounting filesystems with atime imposes a 15-20% penalty on IO due to increased writes. Troll the linux kernel lists for details.
As long as they keep out of the mountains, the people there should be fine.
Tekeli-li !
I can't see why anyone eats shrimp.

Your failure is assuming other people will pay your $200K bill.
Slashdot, get it together. This isn't high school. Headlines answerable by the word "No" ? That's fail.

This is the 2nd mention of the Khan "Academy" in the last week or so.
That looks like a Layer1/Layer2 protocol, it won't get you very far without the rest of the stack.
Ending headlines with question marks screams amateur. Hey editors... why don't you, you know, EDIT ?!

"Any headline which ends in a question mark can be answered by the word 'no' ".
This is high school journalism, Slashdot. Pick up the pace a little.
From Wikipedia:
Betteridge's Law of Headlines is an adage that states, "Any headline which ends in a question mark can be answered by the word 'no'".
You guys are editors - not content regurgitators or approval-bots. EDIT. Stop sucking!
And if the US leaves that middle eastern shithole, you can bet with certainty that no kid from that place will ever set foot on another planet.

Then why use Hotmail? YOU are the reason they're doing this - because you do nothing!
Woz is a creator. So was Jobs. But they both needed Consumers - Jobs was more aware of that than Woz obviously.
Woz wants to build something, own it, and carry it around in his pocket. Most modern IT stuff is designed to give you a means to consume content.
Any wonder it's the "Nanny State" ?
Have you tried unplugging it and plugging it back in?
Imagine the lines of people trying to microwave tupperware bowls full rice and beans.
It's not "the economy" - it's the people spending their dollars in a particular way.
