  1. Suffer with Websense like the rest of us on Liberal Watchdog Questions White House Gmail Use · · Score: 1

Hey liberal elite, suffer with Websense like the rest of us.

    Reason:
The Websense category "General Email" is filtered.

So Detroit is taking the SCOX route?

  3. Qualys = Security for Dummies on 22 Million SSL Certificates In Use Are Invalid · · Score: 2, Insightful

We had a decent Infosec guy at our shop, then he left the group, and they bought a Qualys scanner. Now I get chimps telling me that I might be affected by an Apache 2.0 bug, and so I'm vulnerable. I ask what the bug does, and nobody can say, other than "The Qualys test failed". Great. If I send in enough box-tops, can I get my CISSP too?

  4. Why 3D? on Sunshine Writer Joins Logan's Run Remake · · Score: 3, Insightful

There's nothing in Logan's Run that needs 3D. Are they going to do weird bullet-time Matrix-like effects of the needlers and rippers flying around?

"Look here Cap'n, if I play it back at 10 times speed. Now I figure that's gotta be manmade."

Seriously, this isn't music, its something which happens to have a harmonic. They diddle the frequencies to the 20-20kHz range and pretend its "sun music".

  7. Wave Motion Gun? on DIY Synthetic Aperture Radar · · Score: 2, Interesting

  8. Each to his own fashion on Why Intel Wants To Network Your Clothes Dryer · · Score: 1

  9. Buzzwordy self-importance on Pentaho 3.2 Data Integration · · Score: 0, Offtopic

In my experience, ETL guys are the most obnoxious, self-important douches ever to walk the corridors of the building. Everything is "datamart this" and "database that", when all I can see is a handful of SQL hackers with a big budget and a loud boss.

  10. Cause meet effect on The Real Science Gap · · Score: 3, Interesting

When you have a educational system and culture that shields people from the effects of their bad decisions, even refutes the notion of causality, why would kids be encouraged to enter a field where causality is king? Isn't Obama going to pay their mortgage for them? Won't Al Gore save them from Global Warming? Won't giving $10 to a church save them from hell?

  11. Quant vs. Quantum? on Quant AI Picks Stocks Better Than Humans · · Score: 1

You're right - because someone came up with an elegant, no-moving-parts, no-training-needed design to clean the seawater, but it doesn't clean up the marshlands, it's useless.

ACM is a scholarly, research-oriented group. If you're looking for spoon-fed, PCMagazine types of charts and graphs, look elsewhere. Lots of text generally means that someone with brains has to interpret the data, because the interpretation is non-trivial.

  17. Negroponte, please on OLPC's XO-3 Prototype Tablet Coming In 2010 · · Score: 0, Troll

$75 for a tablet? You get to a point where the cost of the packaging and shipping exceeds the product. When you have a large portion of a continent with no infrastructure, where the only real business is the military, does putting cheap Chinese tablets in the hands of poor kids really help?

It's nice to see that some random guy on the Internet has thought of all these things that the eggheads at MIT didn't consider. And then you follow it with a socialist education troll, for the win.
