  1. Transforming Solar power into propellant on NASA Looking To Build 'Gas' Stations In Space · · Score: 1

If somehow they could use solar power to create energy usable by the ship. First you wouldn't need to re-fill the station ever. Second, you could have less weight on the ship to not have such transforming components. I would image these stations will be the most rarely visited gas stations created by man. So you would have a long time between visits to transform the solar power into another energy source.

  2. 4 modems does not equal 4 times the speed! on Virgin Media Demos World's Fastest Internet Service In the UK · · Score: 0

Ok, the article stated by combining 4 modems will get you 4 times the speed. Except that would require each modem to be on it's own 4 channel bonded system. As we all know cable single is distributed, so each connection isn't dedicated. They would require 4 docis3 head ends that connected to each modem. Currently there isn't funding in most areas to get 1 docis3 head end. Additionally this cuts into your cable channel lineup. Each digital stream is 6mhz wide and have 2mhz on each side to reduce channel interference. that means this will take around 160mhz (8mhz * (4 down stream + 1 up stream)) of your cable stream. Currently they are only able to use something around 10mhz to 1000mhz so that means you will only have 840mhz left for channels. If you think everyone is getting a dedicated 1.5Gbps that is a ways off.

Once we build the technology to receive information from the future, we should know everything that will ever happen in the future. The real question is then is where does unique ideas come from then? If someone is to invent a technology, but a message from the future tells the individual how to make the invention. When is the idea created for the invention? It is a infinite loop of chicken and egg. Just think Wikipedia will have past history and future event.

All the paradoxes still exists. If you can send a message to the past and future. There can be a robot receiving commands, and sending video. So although a person cannot go in the past to mess up the time line, his information can. So a man can still kill his parents before he is born, as long as the robot is created before that time.

The only reason Visual Basic has a bad rep, is that it was an horrible language when it was immature. Since Visual Basic uses the Common Language Runtime (CLR), it can do the majority of what C# can. C# is an extremely powerful language, with great frameworks and libraries. Visual Studio and the CLR, seems to have a completely different management process than windows, and has very few issues. (Microsoft.Windows != Microsoft.VisualStudio) And so what they had an stupid simple default web application that had a possible exploit if it was deployed.

The real problem is Microsoft assumed developeers wouldn't be so stupid. If IT idiots who never took a security class in there life are programming your web application, you will have problems.

Bottom line is, C# is what Java should have been if it had better backing, and VB can do the majority of what C# can. I much rather have a language that has a strong corp. backing.

At least there is someone to be held responsible, unlike linux. This entire thread is just Microsoft vs Linux. This isn’t really an important exploit. Any security expert can tell you not to not to put exception information to your end user. This is why you provide generic errors. Like, when word crashes, it says “An unexpected error happened.” The real problem is the default configuration displays exception information, which is very simple to change. Any educated developer should know not to do this. Regardless, of if it is under asp/php, or IIS/Apache.
