I'll believe it when I see it implemented. The strangest thing I have ever noticed is the corperate world and the underground drug world have many things in common as far as interaction goes. How do deal with both can be summerized as, "your not paranoid, everyone(in the industry) is, or might be out to get you at one point in time. Believe it when you see it, pay nothing till you do. When you try it, make sure you are with as many people who have as much to loose as you as they have people working for them."

bah, its all bullshit. I would move to Canada, but I hear its even worse up there. Anyone going to Mars anytime soon I could hitch a ride with?
Canada is relitively more sane for now, but there legal structure is insane. There are no checks and balances over there
For example A Judge threw a man in Jail for owning firearms, which his neighbors disapproved. The man owned all the fire arms which he mainly used for hunting legally, and no intent was ever proven for him to want to use them to harm people. In fact he was a reclusive old red neck geezer who mainly stayed to himself. I know this story was linked to slashdot.
I like CRTs over LCDs for the reason they are sharper with movement, and don't have as many compatiblity issues. On the other hand, they are heavy, and a bitch to move, but for a desktop monitor that is going to stay in the same spot for years, it doesn't really matter much. If you are a big gamer, a CRT is a deffinate adavantage over LCD, escpecially in fast action games.
4. The guys manning the Microsoft booth told me not a single person has hassled them. One guy said at the last LinuxWorld show, they had one guy giving them a hard time.
I was tempted, REALLY tempted, to start giving them shit, but I really wasn't gonna do that with no one to laugh at them. Really wierd vibe. and WERE DID FUCKING BSD GO. And with that, where did the BSD GIMMICK CHICKS GO. Fuck, I miss that booth, and I won't bullshit you, you know damn well why I, and all of you want it back as well.
I went to the LWE this year on wednesday, and it lacked the old LWE vibe, and most importantly NO GOD DAMN SLASHDOT, and the only main attraction was about 100 god damn people nearly running over eachother for red hats, and red hat CDs. While I did have an intresting conversation about how fucked dal.net another convetion goer, and saw someone in a $500 suit attempt DDR, %90 people there were there for the buisness end. There was not "meet fellow linux geeks" attitudes, "meet and greet people who make your fav. distros" stuff, or even any "geeks"(very few, if any).
Blame the industry for the lack of sales. rack it up to kazaa all you want. Record sales drop due to a simple lack of intrest. No one really wants to here the crap they spew out. All the shitting cheap rock replacement stuff they throw out there is not holding its weight, especially if it costs an arm and a leg.
whatever happened to hosts.allow and hosts.deny on a firewall??? simple answers to simple problems.
On a legal level this should be peachy. If your server is being attacked, you should be able to respond. On a systems security level, this is NOT OK. Giving access to other companies/entities to shutdown proccess on machines which they are not entitled access, is more of a security hazard than what it intents to fix.
snood is one of the most addictive games ever made. Nothing mind boggling or new, just exetremely fun. thats something most newer games forget. Games are not just toys but art, and a form of self expression. Modern games seem to be more intrested in "OMG HOT GRAPHICS" to relize that more important things make a quality game. This is why ALL the good games come from basement companies
Doom was writing when id software as a basement co. the build engine was written by a 12-year-old, and developed(into games) by a then-modest sized company 3d-realms.
This isn;t about stopping software piracy, this is about authority. The RIAA as a private company has no authority to do that, and it should stay that way. Any enforcement of copyright violations should be delt with by the goverment, and ONLY the goverment, which has been elected by the people and for the people. The RIAA is not a goverment agency and therefor has NO LEGAL RIGHT TO law enforcement.
Even if it was the secret service, they still need a warrant from a judge. The new law would give the RIAA Jurisdiction to be cop, judge, and jurry over the internet.
too bad everyone here agrees with you already, and if they don't, their a %90 likely to be a troll. Good words, but put 'em somewhere were normal people will read them. Post that somewhere were people still undecided will see that downloading a few songs of win MX or KazaA won't cause the end of the world. Because, right now, public opinion on filesharing is starting to change on the non-tech sector of the public. The techies will never give in, but they don't need to. half of america doesn't know two things about computers, ever downloaded mp3's and generaly believes what the voice on the TV says, opinions and all. Popular opinion, like fads in music, can easily be manipulated, especially by a company that already OWNS the media industry.
EXAMPLE:
Surgio from system of a down was on k-rock(92.3 NYC), about 2 weeks ago. One of the DJs asked him what he though about their new album being leaked to the internet early. Surgio promply responded, "Well, there is nothing wrong with downloading mp3s from the internet..." This and comming on the heals of many other artists ralying to save napster last year( or was it two years, cannot remeber). This shows just how much the artists are hurting by this. Remeber for every album you buy at $18, the artist makes an average of 7 cents($0.07).
(PLEASE HOLD ALL COMMENTS ABOUT SOAD, THIS IS JUST AN EXAMPLE)
"The other curious aspect of yesterday's release is the use of Secret Service agents in the bust. The Secret Service, we naively presumed, was employed to protect high-ranking elected officials."
that, AND investigate fraud/etc... Remeber the Secret Service(make SS-US SS-nazi joke here) IS and always was part of the treasury, NOT the DoD, or even the DoJ.
This is well in the bounds of Secret service Jurisdiction, seening "piracy" is some bastardized form of fraud.
As far as the raid itself... way out of hand, officials from big(or small) business have no buisness at a goverment bust, nor vice versa. This is almost giving companies govermental Jurisdiction, something that violates everything this country was supposedly founded on.
No, your still guilty of listening to the "wrong" music, and the secret service will come to your house and call you names. Then mabey later they might will throw a punch or two and call you a dork.
bad, lawyers taking money, legal ruccus. Good, sets a good precident for banning thoose stupid fucking popups, and send a legal precident to get Gator, inc, long known for abuse of privacy.
One gator is installed on a machine, its NOT comming out with anything less than a fdisk. You may say, "only morons install gator". Which is true, but the fact is, if a moron sits down and installs gator on your machine, YOUR fucked. This happened to my boss at work, some kids visited on a class trip, he let them use his machine, and they fucking put gator on it. He was fishin around his registry for weeks.
Windows?!?!? you might ask?? if someone has a GOOD linux on the desktop solution, I mean good windows compatiblity(or a SHITLOAD of good "replacement" apps)let me hear it. Otherwise don't even start with the "ewww, windows".
ps its only a matter of time before gator starts having clients send passwords back to a central hub, acting as a backdoor, and having your computer run distributed projects for them, without compensation. For fucks sake, they already claim credit as an assiociate for everything you buy online!
As for win95 being a front end, not quite. It still ran ON TOP of a stripped down version of dos, but the version of dos in win95 has not even 1/3 the functionality of windows95.
Windows95 was the first true "operating system" that was windows.
this is kinda creepy. For once I am in head of the trend. I picked up a copy of boa over a source forge a couple months ago, while looking for nifty shit to try with my linux box(used as server). I didn't install with the rest of the OS cause the ver on the CD was known to have a bug. So instead of getting the latest ver of apache, I decided to see what source forge had. I found this small webserver named boa and decided to give it a try. It is fast, real fast. except when it needs to index, then it fucking is slow like a motherfucker.
Other noteable feature of Boa, it is all in ONE proccess, instead of the multitude of child proccecees apache likes to form. I am guessing it could clog with a couple hundred/thousand users, but it works better that apache with small loads.
good to see that IBM is on-board as well.
ON-BOARD, HAHAHAHAHA, GET IT, ON BOARD!!!!! Its a chip, on (a) board.....
+1 funny

I am not this bored yet. I have enough fun playing with PCs
God help me if they know that I like Avril Lavigne
Avril Lavigne should be in the porn industy, not the music industy.
since you already listen to manufactured pop sneeze, you might as well support the RIAA!

that has got to be a bad photoshop, if that is real, I am scared, seriously scared, and scarred for that matter
what people do in there free time. Kinda intresting but, can't they pick a more intresting topic
