A nice plus of OpenVPN is HTTP Proxy support- you can tunnel through a HTTP Proxy. The worst networks i've been on lock everything but HTTP, and that goes through a proxy server. No arbitrary UDP packets going out...
I heard from him 2 weeks ago, when he announced that this deal had been signed. It was at a signing at a B&N for Shadow of the GIant.
A) He's very happy with the writers. He liked the movie. I didn't see it, so who knows.. but he liked it.
B) William Peterson is attached. He likes to work w/ these 2 writers.
C) Card has a huge amount of control over the production. It will not get made unless he likes the script. Have faith. Really. The mix of Game & Shadow is a very good thing, as it allows the movie to move out of Ender's head.
I've lived in Israel. I've been in places where almost every one is armed. And not just pistols- M16's, Galils (their assault rifle) and other types of guns.
How would you feel if you were at a bus stop here in the States, and there were 15 peopel with you, and half had rifles, fully loaded- and not the restricted semi's- full automatics.
So, the possiblity of the gun racks being full around here isn't such a bad thing. It's much more likely to make you polite to someone if they are carrying a rifle. Really.
(In fairness, almost all people with the rifles are soldiers, but they have to carry them if they don't have double sets of locks for the guns at home. So.. they carry into bars, into restraunts, etc.)
As someone that *has* an 800 mhz G3 iBook , and has had it die 3 times.. I can tell you this machine has not been abused, or in any other way mistreated. It was a bad set of logic boards. They've fixed the problem, and it's been happy for about 8 months now. My family has had 3 other similar iBooks die, for similar reasons. We're not throwing them, or any such thing. Just a bad part. Had the same problem w/ an IBM, and it took almost 7 buisness days to get the machine back from depot.
On the other hand, from original call to Apple for retun box to machine back in hands was 60 Hrs. That includes 3 sets of overnight shipping. If the machine wasn't fully dead, and could be used a bit, or as an external drive, then it drops the down time to 36 hrs. That's from calling Airborne, to it being operational in my hands.
Anyone who went: were any of the newer Exchange alternatives shown? I know some of the groupware systems, but I'm looking for one that is outlook compatable and end user indistiguisable from Exchange. Prefereably for a low cost:-)
As for the iTunes 3.1 bit- They already demo'd a version of iTunes that will do this. It was in July '02, at the keynote. I'm just suprised that it's not out yet.
Just to mention- You aren't going to be seeing any new books from the Sprawl, at least not by William Gibson. I believe he died last year. There was a recent article on his collection of Pulp sci-fi magazines being donated to the University of Calgary.
You most likely can use the same iPod on windows without using the Apple/MusicMatch software. Remember, you can't use the same iPod on 2 Macs, really, either.
If you access the iPod on the PC, you should be able to use XPlay, for much less than a new iPod.
In the text they even say that it was their own misconfiguration, and I think they should have indicated that better in the table. It wasn't down because it crashed, or "vendor" issues, but because they messed it up.
I have been working w/ mpeg-2 data for a little while, and was searching for a way to use it & play it on the Mac. I don't have a DR of QT6, only the public trial, but it does not support MPEG-2, only MPEG-4 & 1. Now, Divx is actually based on MPEG-4, and there are actual codecs out for quicktime now that allow DIVX to play. http://mpeg4.jamby.net/ is the site that used to support that codec. It recently moved- follow the link to the new location...
I now use VLC to play MPEG-2 that is extracted from my Tivo. A slight modification to the standard linux util to convert the date works wonders, and plays beautifully. It also allows you to play SVCD's, and is in a nice aqua window.
FYI: for those in NYC & NY state, there is a program that offers very inexpensive access to the HMO's. I'm not a hundred percent sure of how much the government is picking up, but it's called Healthy NY.
It is available for uninsured working individuals, sole proprietors, and small buisness owners. They each have their own rules. However, the prices are in the 180-220/month, and covers most of the necessary things in medicine. It is offered by *all* HMO's that operate in New York State. Same coverage, different administation, and networks, yields the price difference.
Having looked into this for NYSA insurance, I can tell you that computer people tend to be one of the easier to insure, as they tend to be young, as a population, reasonably healthy, (maybe not in lifestyle, but good from a starting point), and have been under continous health care for their whole lives. This of course is only an average, stereotype- You'll find older geeks, but the most prominent percentage of our population is below 40. This also applies to life insurance & disability. We are unlikly to get seriously injured on the job, (other than RSI's) and actually like what we do;-)
CNN was down during a good portion of the day of Sept. 11. I heard a presentation from one the 3 main Sysadmins at CNN, during the SAGE / LISA conference this year. I expect that you can find more detail on it, it was a Keynote speach, at LISA 2001. I don't know if any info went up on any websites about it, but the actual load of all the people brought down a some machines, and once that happened, the load balancers couldn't get them back up. They exceded their normal load by orders of magnitude, and before they lost their logging, exceded all prior records for their site.
I know that many of the newest startups are based in Israel, with headquarters here in the States. Technology is very prevelant there, and is possibly the largest industry. I've never actually looked into getting ADSL or Cable modems there, but I'm sure they will be along soon, or are already there now.

I hate to break it to you-

I saw at one point a new URL based DNSBL. It was supposed to use URL's found in the body of spam to form a blackhole list. Any one know what it is?
It seemed like it would be a very effective BL.

That's just the normal service level...

Problem is that most of us use the iPod in a holster or a case. So, most of the time.. the photocell will be in dark- thus wasting the battery.
Just a thought...
Pagers are meant to be used in the hand.. iPods have remotes, too.
BTW- My sidekick/hiptop has the same photocell feature....
Add more RAM. I have an 800, and it definatly helps. The unix makes up for all of it, though... Spend the cash, and get up to 640 meg of RAM.

In addition to the the other API's, JAVA is supported nativly.
