Breadth....A lot of large corps are loading down machines with more and more automation software e.g. ESD ( electronic software distribution) , automatic encryption systems, automatic backup and recovery systems, logging systems, bigger smarter Anti Virus with auto downloads, bigger/smarter firewalls with central server checkins, etc.
Corps want to put even more crap on the systems but their users complain of speed as it is. There is still a hardware cycle, but it now driven by the number and amount of bloatware instead of the needs of one killer app.
You did a pretty good job defending China, but you skipped over some of the GPs accusations. For example, the mandatory abortions. Can you say that a country that forces abortions is not brutal?
Lots of people are making comments about how to organize your books in a manner similar to how your local library does it.
For a geek capable of higher levels of thought, this is not the way to go.
First off, you really want the most used books in the most convenient locations. If you don't do this, then you will soon f
ind you are to lazy to keep up with the 'library' system you started.
The next problem is shelving a space. If you do a 'local library' type system, then you will need good shelving and lots of
space. This is annoying and expensive. The real big exclusive libraries do not keep books this way and neither should you.
It is inefficient. Instead, after you have selected a proper software system to address every location on your bookshelves,
take your less frequently used books and arrange them all according to size. That is right, pay no attention to subject,
title or anything else, just sort by size. Then take your big books and put them on the bottom shelves. Adjust the shelves s
o that shelf above is resting on the books below. Then stuff the next shelf. Repeat. You will now have your books stored
in the least amount of space, and you can use cheap bookcases because the books themselves become structural load bearing
members of the bookcase. It also looks very impressive when done correctly.
Brings back memories. After some buddies and I had our own pepper eating contest in Texas, the next day, one of the guys was overcome and had to go to the restroom in a walmart. We heard the screams from far away. When he finally came out he just smiled at the crowd that had gathered and said "Man, that was an ankle grabber!"
As I recall, in the pre-napoleon days, France beheaded 70 some odd generals a year. They were leaders in the theories of fighting, but they had some issues with uhhh obeying orders. Hence they had to find someone non French who was stupid enough to accept a position as general of their armies to lead them to victory:) So yeah, a non-Frenchman was able to manipulate the French in his plans to dominate the world:)
I'm with you. I hate having a white background when using any kind of computer app. The ease of keeping things grey on black, is one of the primary reasons I spend so much time in consoles instead of using windows type applications. Anyway, slashdot looks real real good in lynx, so if you are serious about wanting to view slashdot with grey on black or white on black, give it a try. Here are my color settings for lynx: COLOR:0:lightgray:black COLOR:1:cyan:black COLOR:2:lightgray:blue COLOR:3:green:black COLOR:4:green:black COLOR:5:brightcyan:black COLOR:6:red:black COLOR:7:black:white
I guess I don't follow the point. We are talking about a company 'owning' the employee. If you can't get a job, then you are not owned by a corp and the discussion does not apply. The slavery aspect only comes into play when you have a job, and are so afraid of loosing that job that you must do everything the corp tells you to do.
No, the company only 'owns' you, if you have hocked yourself into to much debt, and if you have not saved enough money to cover your obligations for the amount of time which may be required while you get another job. If a company 'owns' you, it is because you have put yourself in position to be a slave. If you don't like it, it is not the company's fault, it is yours. Live correctly and within your means and you will be nobody's slave.
Yes, the copies will determine if someone tries to fake a document later on. But I thought they were talking about proof that the document came from the right person, that the headers say the document came from.
For example, to play jokes, I sometimes send emails to my coworkers claiming to be from our boss. Those emails get copied & backed up just like real ones. And the coworkers can not tell that the email was not from the boss. So how would you prove in court that the boss really did send the email?
I use lynx just because it gets rid of frames. If you set your slashdot settings correctly,/. looks better in lynx than any other browser. My typical style is firefox when surfing, but once I have a mental image of the site in my mind, I start viewing it in lynx.
I disagree that our form of govt. requires that the voting public be well informed about all the issues. Although it is hard in our present time, it could be possible for the voting public to make themselves well infomred about the character and values of their reps. If the media and other sources could be swayed to keep tabs on the morals and values of the reps instead of the reps' rhetoric about one current issue or another, then we could consider ourselves well informed. A voter could vote for the rep that sees life in way that most conforms to the voter's outlook, and the voter could then rest assured that the rep should -- after research -- vote in a way he desires. Although this is far from possible now, if most powers were transferred back to the states, and if the states could be persuaded to transmit most of that newly recovered power down to the county/metropolitan level, then a voter could be resonable sure about a rep's character, and thus a vote based on character could be counted upon to be an informed vote.
This is why I smile when I hear talk of Clinton's back room antics & comments about GWB being a few bricks short of a load....This stuff is relevant. Voters should care, because in my opinion, the value of the individual running for office is about the only thing on which we can make an informed decision.
now I like Cisco, but rest assured that their wireless gear is not near as reliable as their other lan products. I manage about 500 of these things & have at least one lockup or device failure a week.
Actually as I recall this would be triply wrong by latin rules
1) virus has only a singular form, so you coud not pluralize it by adding an i to the end (I had to look it up ).
2) If you could pluralize it w/ an 'i', then it would be viri ( sounds like weary ) not virii ( This everybody knows ).
3) ( I'm just guessing on this one ) Since virus is neuter -- which seemed odd to me -- its plural should be vira. All neuters have a short a as the nominative plural.
hehe...Well, I actually bothered to look it up. placeo takes the dative, so my grammer was wrong. "I like big butts" should read "Magnis Clunibus placeo"
"Magnae Clunes mihi placent" translates to "Big butts are pleasing to me"
I was actually going to reply to your message with a few shots of my own. Then I saw your user name. I realized that you already knew that which I was about to say.
If switching to Earthlink is not an option for you, you might want to see if you can get the real cheap cable service. TW does not advertise it, and the reps will not tell you about it, but many states require the cable co to provide a super stripped down version of cable for cheap.
In my case (TN) I told the cable co I wanted the sub-standard/nothing-but-the-over-the-air-channels package. It costs me $12+ and I get great reception and a few extra channels to boot.
So, if you don't like the $5/mo surcharge, you could up your bill by $7 and get the sub-standard pkg.
Mine comes with the over the air stuff, plus the history channel, TLC, MTV2, the weather channel, some cspans, and the food channel. But really I just pay for it so I can get decent reception while watching football.
Yeah, Indiana is still only issuing one plate for the back of the vehicle.

At least two of us. Dang, that was funny.
Did they fly you first class?
Are you able to tear and eat the bread with one hand yet, or are you trying to eat your curry like a westerner?

Take you pick on which you think is right.
Ego magna voce rideo.
Shouldn't your sig start w/ Magnas Clunes placeo .... not Magnae Clunes mihi placent ?
BTW, one of the funniest sigs out there.

Been there, done that. 45 minutes to LA...Does that put you in Longview or Marshal Tx?
