Our investigations reveal that some drivers from ATI also produce a slightly lower total score on
this new build of 3DMark03. The drop in performance on the same test system with a Radeon
9800 Pro using the Catalyst 3.4 drivers is 1.9%. This performance drop is almost entirely due to
8.2% difference in the game test 4 result, which means that the test was also detected and
somehow altered by the ATI drivers. We are currently investigating this further.
The guy sounds like a idiot to me. Correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't there be much less chance for virus infection if users weren't running as root out of the box?
I'm all for Linux gaining desktop marketshare over M$, but I do not believe this guy has what it takes to get there. His reasoning seems spur of the moment, not logical for the most part.
If you're looking for a super-easy install, why not just use FreeBSD?
You can install it from two floppies, and installing new software is easy as:
cd/usr/ports/new/package
make install
Or for those who don't have "compile time" you can grab binaries off the net:
pkg_add -r new_package
I recently converted my P133 fileserver to FreeBSD and it'll never run Linux again. Whole install took 15 minutes, then about another hour getting stuff setup.
All I can say is try it. There's a lot more to it than just an ACL. In fact I don't even use the ACL, I use all the _other_ security enhancements it offers.
Obviously you've never played Dark age of Camelot. It is a windows game and is more fun that any other game I've ever played.
Grouping all windows games into one "sucks" category is pretty dumb on your part, you couldn't possibly have tried them all.
My PS2 has been in the living room collecting dust since I discovered DAOC. Haven't seen anything good for PS2 since FFX. *Yawn*
BTW, I actually _have_ that particular little jewel and I'm sorry to tell you that it does suck pretty bad. A total let down to say the least. Save your money, invest it in a small server and just install Linux there.
I don't want to pay for webspace or email accounts that I don't even use. Like when I have an outage with my cable connection and I call back a few days later to get a credit on my bill.. I can't even get a full credit because my "email" and "webspace" were not down they say, only the important part of my service was down, my residential internet connection.. Which is only a 1/3 of the daily cost. pfft!
Who ever dreamed up this "value added" bullshit needs to be shot. I already pay for commercial webspace, I have all the email accounts I could ever dream of. I want a straight pipe to the net, nothing else.
And I'd trade half of this downstream for a little more upstream. 128K sucks ass.
Innovative cooling systems will be needed in about three years for personal computers expected to contain microprocessor chips that will generate four times more heat than chips in current computers. Whereas current high-performance chips generate about 75 watts per square centimeter, chips in the near future will generate more than 300 watts per square centimeter, Mudawar said.
Who can afford the electric bill to run such machines in their homes? I already stress over the few rooms in my house where I use 100 watt light bulbs instead of 60 or 75 watt bulbs. Can you imagine hooking up your shiney new PC in 2006, then getting an $800 electric bill the next month? Man..
I guess powering down your system when not in use will become more common.
Yeah, that guy is clueless. We have massive amounts of PHP code on load balanced systems and it gets slammed 24/7. PHP scales pretty damn good for my group of coders.
His queries are probably "select * from..." or some other dumb shit.
Meanwhile mod_ruby is broke as fuck. For web page authors, ruby is really not an option at the moment.
How is it a bad move? They know which platform they sell more copies of their software for. Hint, hint.. it's not the Mac! So it makes perfect business sense for them to say what they prefer their users to use their products on.
"Upset Mac people.." Come on! As if they aren't used to it by now.
I'd be upset knowing I spend 2-3 times as much for my computer to do the same work a PC will do.
Now that almost made me piss my pants I laughed so hard. Thanks.
Any self respecting warez kiddy knows kazaa-lite is where it's at.
(haven't tried it, but will when I have time)
Yeah I dunno how you have time for anything anymore.. having to post duplicate articles and all.

but the show itself makes me yawn.
The whole vampires thing has been done to death long before buffy came along.

Well, Gentoo is nice I must admit.. but my Linux distro of choice is Linux From Scratch
Google doesn't seem to agree with you.
But whatever.. My point is made, it's not _your_ quote.

You should give credit to the original author when you post someone else's quote.
Or did you think no one would realize this quote was originally made by Kristian Wilson of Nintendo, Inc. in 1989?

Sounds like much of the same security that's been available from grsecurity.net for quite a while now.
Last time I checked I could still crash Mozilla with onSelect="select()" or an onFocus="select()" in a <textarea>.
They all have bugs to some point. You're a fool if you think otherwise.
Warez and Warez Topsites have already been doing this type of advertising for several years.
*yawn*

Not to worry, the same article will be posted on Slashdot again tomorrow, possibly sooner.
I thought everything posted on Slashdot was true, you mean it isn't?
OMG! What's the world coming to?
The articles states:

The truth is out now.. Mozilla was originally an April Fool's Joke? But on who? M$?
Hehe..
Tried to install the Flash plugin? It sucks rocks.
It's actually pretty easy:
tar -zxvf install_flash_player_6_linux.tar.gz
cd install_flash_player_6_linux
Bad handling of lack of disk space is either an oversight or laziness of the programmer.
You're an idiot, ever heard of df -h? In mear milliseconds you can see all disc usage on all partitions.
Mandrake is user-friendly. Idiot friendly is what you want I believe. Just keep using windoze and being dumb.
Suppose the user had KMail and Mutt installed
One word here: Evolution

This is an idiotic feature request, no wonder they have no implemented it.
You should have already removed unwanted packages months before a upgrade. Ever hear of rpm -e ?
