    Don't get me wrong, I commute by bike as often as possible, didn't have more than 2 kids, drive a car that gets over 30 mpg (and drive it less than 6000 miles a year), recycle as much as possible, purchase locally grown and ecologically produced food and in general, try to tread lightly.

    This is the Environmentalist's version of "I have friends that are black!"

    I concur.

    There are three parts to this education equation...the teachers, the parents and the students. If the any one of them don't give a shit, then it's a complete failure.

    The fact is that there many are children out there who do not have access to computers and the internet at home that can easily out perform children who do.

    Without parents that are involved with their children and are at least semi-computer literate, the kid will do nothing but Facebook or Half Life all day.

    Well, there is that small difference of the Y2K problem being completely testable. In fact, that's what we did many times. Set the clock ahead, run your stuff and compare against the baseline QA results. And of course, just looking through the code was a lot easier to do than it is for Global Warming.

    In southern CA, where I grew up, you had to hide down a path at least 30 feet to even get to the beach. Then, it was at least another six foot drop from the beginning of the beach to the water line.
