I grew up in Scotland and now live in Boulder, CO.
The average standard and selection of beer in the US is so far head and shoulders above Scotland it's not even comparable. It's not unusual for restaurants to have dozens of beers on tap and larger liquor stores carry hundreds of different brews. If you like a good scots ale then you'll be ok in most of Scotland, and if you like a typical German beer then you'll be happy there, but if you like having a large selection of things to choose from then you'll be happier here.
That's absurd. I've saved my team's collective ass by pointing to stuff like - "we made this agreement with your company on 5/2/2007 in a discussion with myself Mike and Jeff". Ultimately that's been a great benefit to my employer (though we don't do any kind of shady stuff that we don't want future records pointing to)
I also don't think legality factors into it massively, particularly if it's legalized with the facts about safety and addiction clearly marked on the package.
The reason I don't get up in the morning and smoke heroin has nothing to do with the law, it's very similar to the reason I don't start the day with a double whisky - it's because it wouldn't have a positive impact on my life. Generally nobody believes they'll be caught anyway - there might be a little novelty at first, but by and large the people who want to abuse opiates are already abusing opiates.
I've never had a particularly bad experience quitting jobs, and the more graceful employers have always left themselves in situations where they can call me up and ask if they need a particular file or piece of knowledge or hire me back on a short term basis to fix a problem.
One employer early in my career even pointed out that my workstation was slated for recycling when I was done with it and let me take it home. Somehow security didn't bat an eyelid when I signed that out and simultaneously handed over my termination documents and badge.
I too have been using Joker for probably a decade and have had nothing but good experiences. The whole thing is nicely automated, their messages all come gpg signed and their customer service is pretty good and they helped me out recently by making exceptions to their automated rules.
Also I think it's fundamentally wrong to view "civil disobedience" as a one time thing. Him handing a bunch of documents to Glenn Greenwald wasn't the singular act of disobedience.
He's still acting in a disobedient matter. He's still sitting on the bus if you will. And he is still suffering the consequences of his actions, even if that doesn't mean rotting in prison.
I think his own actions make that quite clear. If he's been stuck in a US prison do you think he's be able to still communicate with journalists to draw attention to his leaks, would he be able to testify at the European Union?
He's already demonstrated that he's more valuable to advancing his agenda when he's able to communicate, than if he were in prison alongside Chelsea Manning. He's not running away like a coward, he's running away like someone who's determined to make his actions count for as much as possible.
Thinking back to this, you may have driver issues with this. If it's still in an OEM configuration then that'll probably be done for you by compaq, but on a clean DOS install i remember having to screw around installing cardsoft drivers to make it work.

My son isn't old enough for this to be an issue yet, but I think my strategy will be to tell him that I log all the web traffic going through the house. I'll be clear that I'm not going through every single record, but if I have reason to believe he's up to something inappropriate then I'll be able to go back and check.
I think then just being open about why some internet porn is damaging and being available to discuss anything he does find is probably the best option. I almost wonder about giving him a zivity login or something that would let him look at naked people without going further.

Given that, the fact that half the facilities in an area are below the median and half are above is completely unremarkable. It's indeed exactly what you'd expect to find if that area was totally average (by CA standards)
You aren't paying a penny for the typical "smart" tv feature-set. If samsung chose to make a dumb version of a tv then it'd cost at least as much because they'd effectively have the same BOM but end up with a product that was designed for a niche market.
Technology aside, i'm pretty sure TV makers actually collect from netflix/spotify/hulu and whoever else is pre-installed, which ultimately makes the smart product cheaper still.

Girlfriend is a graphic designer so she's routinely pulling/pushing gigs of files to dropbox, usually she'll be streaming something from netflix if she's waiting for files to transfer, then i'm working remotely on a terminal services session while streaming audio.
Having said all that, comcast recently bumped us from 50/10 to 105/10 and that rarely makes a difference. But I think we'd notice if we were getting less than 10 down.

Just like someone with a physical disability might immediately eliminate all homes with stairs. Someone who works from home will immediately eliminate all home with crappy internet access.
I'd pay 100% less for a home that doesn't have good internet access.
However those are also the people that many cities want to attract.
One of the satellite cities round here is developing city wide municipal fiber and expects to have everyone connected in a few years time. I'm not looking to move at the moment, but it is a decent factor that will put them in the running for our next home.
Personally I chose my current home, in part, because i could get 50mbit/s from comcast, 40mbit/sec from centurytel, good 4g and two fixed wireless providers. I'm also less than 20' from the city fiber network, although they don't presently let consumers buy access to that.
Honestly these days it's often quicker to tether. Even in rural NC last week I was able to pick up a 4g signal that gave me 10Mbit/s down. The free hotel wifi struggled to hit 2Mbit
You could always exploit the review system of airbnb to force a change.
Whenever their guests are quiet you can flip the tables and go knock on their door at midnight. Tell them "[landlord's name] said you've have shit ready for me". Once they get a few reviews of "Strange people show up in the middle of the night maybe trying to buy drugs" it should in theory sort itself out:)
There are plenty of subreddits that tolerate sexist and racist remarks and plenty that don't allow them. I'm not sure of the exact blend, but it seems like there's something for everyone

Put a 64MB CF card in a CF to pcmcia adapter and Windows should see it has a hard disk.
Then stick that in a modern card reader and you should be home free
