  1. Re:Sorry but ... on Emigrating To a Freer Country? · · Score: 1

I have used that same reasoning when it concerns folks who would be refugees from their war torn country. Stay there and fight, don't run away. Our USA forefathers left their respective countries looking for freedom in a new land. When they found it, they fought to keep it, several times. The problem now days is that most people figure things are still pretty good, and we're better than country X, so leave well enough alone. If you can find a country, or island, or somewhere to conquer or simply claim as your own, go for it, build your own country.

When did all of this disrespect for the position of our President start? Must have been around the first Clinton Administration. He tried to appeal to the younger crowd by appearing on MTV, and dressing casually, etc. I'm not talking about necessarily respecting the man, but respect the position. I haven't respected a President since Ronald Reagan, but I do respect the position. The President should not appear on talk shows, MTV, movies, or sitcoms. The President is not our friend or buddy. Discipline is needed to keep respect and authority.

May be, but one doesn't get the iPhone, or other premium phone, for free. One must pay $200-$800 for a phone AND high monthly charges.

  4. Re:They continue to fail on SSN Required To Buy Palm Pre · · Score: 2, Interesting

I don't believe American consumers want two year contracts. The phone companies want the contracts. With all the new phones and possibly cheaper services coming out, the companies want customers locked in. As odd as it seems to most Americans, I use pay as you go. Then too, I'm not on the phone 24 hours a day seven days a week. I use it when I need the convenience, or when urgent. I believe cell phone service in the US is way overpriced, and contracts probably have a lot to do with it.

I mean, most plans I see have 1000's of anytime minutes as a minimum...with nights and weekends free....and long distance is free too. How do you run up such high bills with all that time?

By purchasing songs, ringtones, texting, sending photos, and possibly in rare cases, 1-900, and other premium numbers.

  10. Re:Facebook status: "LIVING UNDER A BRIDGE! HELP" on How American Homeless Stay Wired · · Score: 4, Insightful

I would say someone in his situation wants to be homeless. Not every homeless person is a mentally ill individual, or is someone who lost a job. Some people are homeless because they prefer to be off the grid. Some make pretty good money panhandling (begging, if you prefer). Some are criminals. If someone wants to stay connected to others, and is homeless, IMHO he wants to be homeless.

  11. A new idea? on More Americans Play Video Games Than Go To Movies · · Score: 1

Video games are a better value than theaters. DVDs are a better value also. What would be really cool, and probably a better value, would be if we could have a place we could watch movies while sitting in our cars. I'd probably call it a Drive In Movie Theater, and I bet it would catch on really quickly. Of course, you wouldn't be able to have 18 screens, sticky arm rests, noisy patrons, cell phone interruptions, and the rest of the glorious indoor theater fun.

Seriously, I'm tired of all these so called studies that say we can save X number of units of some value if we stop doing Y with a computer, or alter some other process. I know "going green" is the new catchphrase, but a lot of this nonsense is, well, nonsense. It should be of more concern the amount of time spam email wastes, and the money idiots waste actually replying to, or buying from, those activities. If a spam message gets through the filters already in place, I spend a few seconds to identify it as spam and press delete. That's a few seconds per year in my case.
