  1. Before you make yourself look stupid... on Amtrak Photo Contestant Arrested By Amtrak Police · · Score: 1

...and start ranting about the Stalinist-police-state that America has become because we have "Amtrak Police", comparing them to Blackwater and saying that they have no rights, they're just rent-a-cops, etc. you may want to look at what Wikipedia has to say on the subject:

All of Amtrak's preferred stock is owned by the U.S. federal government. The members of its board of directors are appointed by the President of the United States and are subject to confirmation by the United States Senate.

They're government. Just think of Amtrak Police as "Federal transit cops". The fact that for the whole nation, there are only 342 of them is kind of scary.

I agree with the AC below. This is a total troll.

If you think charging for add-on content is a rip off, perhaps you should buy an X-Box and pay for Live, where they then charge you for...wait for it...add-on content!

And since the level editor isn't powerful enough to allow the creation of really new content - it just kind of sucks too.

Wow, posted on the article about how the level editor is so versatile you can even create mechanical computers in it. That's trolling at it's worst, you've forgotten the subject at hand! Lame.

They started to go that way for a while. Artists began realizing that adding a visual element to their musical work could create a fascinating new experience for their fans. This had the convenient side-effect of extra promotion, while still having value other than being a throw-away ad.

Unfortunately, the '90s are over and we're back to bullshit.

  6. Re:What is the percentage of Zero? on Warner Music Pulls Videos Off YouTube · · Score: 1

Warner Music pays radio stations to play their releases through independent promotion.

Warner Music pays MTV to play videos by their artists (which they obviously do none of anymore, but I'm sure it exists somewhere on MTV58 or something)

Warner Music wants YouTube to PAY THEM for exposure on the fastest growing, most widely availible and most preferred medium out there today?

YouTube should tell them to suck a wet bag of dicks and then promote whatever videos they have from other record labels on the front page for a week. I think Warner Music will change their tune pretty quickly.

  7. Re:Does Youtube get a cut of the sales? on Warner Music Pulls Videos Off YouTube · · Score: 1

    None.

Even those "shuffle" radio stations are falling by the wayside, and it's not because no one listened to them. I hate to say it, but the problem is the advertisers. They want to target specific groups SO BADLY that they won't give a dime to anyone who can't guarantee a certain type of viewer/listener.

The real problem is they see these "shuffle" type services as reaching no one, instead of reaching everyone.

  8. Re:Rock stars obviously aren't accountants. on Warner Music Pulls Videos Off YouTube · · Score: 1

'Just' $45K after taxes to live on for a year? That's actually pretty damm good money - unless you have a drug habit like hers.

When you're a musician, you need to buy instruments and equipment, you need a space to practice, and most likely you need studio time.

That's not free, and it's certainly not cheap.

After all that, you're looking at maybe $20k a year for basic living costs like rent, food, car, etc.

Or, you can just not spend that much money on your work, fall behind in your practice and your writing work, and end up owing the label MORE money when your project tanks and no one goes to see you live.

It's a trap - do not go to work for the RIAA.

    1. Find a car with LED tail lights.
    2. Look at them as the brake is applied and they illuminate.
    3. "Shake" your eyes left and right rapidly

You will observe, instead of a smooth trail of light (referred to on film as a "motion blur") like you normally would see, you can see individual "sets" of lights; very broken partial light trails. This effect is exaggerated enough to be realized in this case by the constant movement of your eyes.

Every set of LED tail lights I've ever seen could produce this effect. How can this be? Apparently, I'm not alone in my experiences, either. I'm certainly not one of those nut jobs who says WiFi makes them nauseous, hell I can't tell teh difference between 320kbps MP3 and WAV.

I can, however, hear a high pitched whine from an old CRT with no signal, 60Hz monitor refresh gives me a headache, and LED tail lights leave a strobe pattern instead of a smooth trail.

I believe this is dangerous as it can make determining the point of origin for such types of lights difficult when split-second instinctive brain functions take over. Instead of a line leading to the current position of the tail light, in that slit second my mind has 3 "still frame" snapshots to piece the scene together with - not quite enough information.

Don't we discuss "just because it's a law doesn't make it wrong" on Slashdot all the time? I think that was an important part of the great great grandparent's post.

Not even local law ENFORCEMENT saw a problem, even if the law was on the books (Just like how it's illegal to sell yellow margarine in Minnesota, no one has given a shit for like 85 years). However, as soon as that law could be used to the advantage of someone else, all of a sudden it counts, and this guy is now an outcast.

You're not allowed to selectively enforce laws. This asshole cop could be charged with a LOT more than child neglect.

How this relates to the story? I don't know. The story is about how emo kids will begin cutting themselves so that people who sent them hate-txts will be thrown in jail. A manipulation of the law, but in a different way.

Maybe a better analogy would be a car owner that hears about someone winning a large lawsuit against a manufacturer because a faulty part caused a crash, so the car owner rigs that part to fail on purpose and crashes his car in order to win a large settlement of their own. In other words, this ruling/law will encourage children to harm themselves, in order to commit fraud, in order to exact revenge on those who taunt them.

Doesn't sound like a very god idea to me.

People don't vote their conscience, they vote their prejudices. I thought that would have been clear by now.
