Yes, exactly, but the point is how often does this happen in general society?

Almost never, and people dont' think twice about being spoon-fed crap. It wouldn't be quite so bad if these record companies didnt' pretend they're the end-all, be-all of music, talent, and entertainment and play on the legal field where they most definitly don't belong. Things like the DCMA are only nessesary if major record labels/producers are filling chpater 11 left and right, and you can PROVE without a doubt that piracy is to blame, which is very difficult seeing as quality of product is a highly opinionative statistic but one which drastically affects this equation.

There is no legal definition of "this music sucks", nor should there be. For this reason, piracy will always be blamed for slumps on the Top Profit 40, and any method which can be used for piracy will be attacked. This is exactly why we have the "anti-CD burner" and "Anti-MP3" movement.

Ironcally enough (again, heh), the record companies would tend to save more and then even make more on top of that if they wern't busy spending their "hard earned" (heh) money on lobbyists and started reworking their business model to include new technologies, distribution formats & channels, and better yet, a new popularity scheme for artists (a la mp3.com voting style?).

...But since this world belongs to them, I guess am dreaming again *sigh*...

  6. Re:That's Not The Perl Jam Effect! on Moby Says Techie Fans = Fewer Sales · · Score: 3, Insightful

It's sad that artist quality is judged on album sales when it's such a manipulated statistic. Whoever gets airplay gets sales. Whoever gets sales gets a higher rank. See the problem?

The Fragile was a phenomenally produced album. No one got it. Britteny Spears album was cheesy, predictable, studio crafted (i.e. Sound Engeneers, not Artists) pop music, and it sells out. Who has more commercials and exposure? OK, thanks.

Let's not even get into artists like the Pranksterz and Paul Glazby. They're techno (well, hard house/nu nrg/hard trance/etc, but as far as most are concerned, same thing), and they're MUCH better and more creative than Moby. Ever see them on any pop charts? Think they even would have the money to do a video? Ever even HEAR of them? Nope. Real talent hidden away. <rant>And now I take flak for being too "underground" in my music tastes from Eminem fans who sing "Nobody listens to techno!" Ironically enough that lyric is about Moby...</rant>

    MONITOR THE DAMN CEL PHONES.

That way you can KNOW exactly what the bad guys are saying to each other and go find them. Or get real advanced and triangulate their signal. Don't tell me if you have triads of back helicopters flying patrol over 100sq/km or so you can't afford 30 guys in a couple trailers with bugging gear. Legally, I think citezens would understand making an exception of monitoring laws/etc. in this case. It's not like here in the US where they would make a law in advance to be allowed to monitor the whole country all the time and "any attempt to circcumvent such protections..." AH sorry where was I? Oh yes, there is an understandable need for this measure. Any solution that causes more problems than remedies is nothing short of a Microsoft hack.

If I was in the area of G8 and I needed my cel phone for an emergency (such as someone got hurt, or maybe if I WANTED TO REPORT TERRORIST ACTIVITIES), and I was unable to use it due to this security solution's bug^H^H^Hfeature, I would hire a lawer and sue the everlasting bejesus out of whoever I could possibly hold responsible.

Including the states/countries whatever of the leaders who decided to meet in this area (even if I would lose).

Photoshop 7 was a huge offender for me, but having upped straight from 5.5, it was a real shocker.

WTF are these new transfer modes??? Color Dodge doesn't work the same! How come layer transparency doesn't work the same?? WHERE IS THE FADE FILTER COMMAND???

Of course, it's all still there. (Vivid Light usually does what I want, the Layer Fill parameter [under the opacity] effects tranclucency first and THEN applies transfer mode, and vice versa for opacity [ I LOVE this btw ], and Fade Filter is under the Undos in the Edit menu (Why? Oh well at least it's there).

Oddly enough this brings up in interesting point: Microsoft actually did something right. IIRC there is a preference option in MS Word '98 called "Word 5.1 Menus." I.e. if you are used to the old-school style, it's availible. I think Adobe and other companies should do more of this kind of thing. I don't know much about Windows or any of the X11RC enviroments, but for Mac it's easy to re-arrange the menu items, as well as tailor your event loop to be versitile enough to handle it (lookup tables work nicely). It's extra bulk but it can be helpful.

As far as new features, well, new is new, you gotta learn it sometime. I liek most of the new stuff though, especially the Healing Tool. Yum.
