    Any process for syncing cryptocurrency keys will probably use weaker security than the keys themselves and is therefore problematic on that basis alone. Also, no, I don't want to transmit my keys over the internet, I will copy them manually, as everyone handling anything more than pocket change should.

    There are lots of stats on a wide variety of welfare programs. Most show an overall decrease in costs.

  7. The ones who have read studies on the effects of welfare programs on government finances probable love it.

  8. Interestingly, most welfare programs decrease total costs to the taxpayer.

    While efforts may have been made by the editor at the time of publication to verify a lack of attempted attacks by that website, there is no guarantee that it would remain safe and plenty of reason to assume that it might not.

    Most slashdot readers are probably not at risk, but not all are safe. I would have figured that the link in OP would be to a screenshot, but nope, it is directly to the compromised website. While efforts may have been made by the editor at the time of publication to verify a lack of attempted attacks by that website, there is no guarantee that it would remain safe and plenty of reason to assume that it might not. Isn't not spreading suspicious links and emails one of the first things we tell people when giving them basic internet safety advice?

    It would be a miss if it affected all Gmail users. But it only affects a portion of them. Until the cause can be identified it is entirely reasonable to assume that this might not have come up in rigorous QA testing. And it is entirely unreasonable to assume that it should have come up in testing.
