Also, this doesn't mean they can't come in that friday for a send off, or going away/good luck party... they just don't have access to the network or work there anymore.
Owning an IT company that does on site service for several mid size businesses, I'd say there is a policy in place with 95% of the companies I service that if an employee gives two weeks notice that they got another job, they are locked out of the system that day, escorted out of the building and given a two week paid vacation(special projects, or unfinished critical business may dictate otherwise). It's not hostile, or angry, and it has nothing to do with trust of the individual employee, it's just good business sense. More than likely they are moving to a similar company, and their heart is now not here. Both of those situations dictate that the risk of loss of IP or just simply paying them to take up oxygen when they may/may not have "Senioritis" is not wise. Getting the new person in place as quickly as possible is a benefit also and your cubicle/computer/parking space is needed for them.
Now NOT paying the employee and escorting them out is bad form on all levels.
I don't think I'll ever understand when people post misleading videos on things like this. Why would we as a society WANT people to hate the system we put in place to maintain law and order? I completely understand if they are actually being abusive... but what purpose is served by making people think the police are MORE abusive than they really are? It just breeds more mistrust, more hatred, more problems. No one would ever want that to happen to them, but it seems so commonplace anymore for people to do it to others.
Yes... exactly. It makes no sense to go to a wider tire and then tip it up to one side so only part of the tread fully touches the pavement while going straight. Unless, you were more concerned with looks than actual performance, and you buy into what the salesman tells you WHICH is most of the younger ricers, soccer moms, and wanna-be playboys in their cars where they offset the performance of their cold air intake and exhaust with huge 20" wheels that weigh 4 times what the originals did and wide tires that drag more.
so... if you're trully concerned with gas mileage, get some really light skinny wheels and skinny tires.
But, since manufacturers have realized that they can spread a bit of misinformation, we get the following 1. Sell someone wider wheels and tires 2. listen to complaints that the customers gas mileage is bad now. 3. Realize and spread the info that negative camber helps gas mileage. 4. Oh, it kills your tires? then now we have special tires that compensate. 5. Sell them the new tires 6. And... the Brooklyn Bridge is for sale if you buy five of them now.
Repeat with cell phones that last less time than the contract, and retire!
Come on, read the article, it says 1.1 MILLION megapixels... that means that you can get approximately.2 pictures on the memory card before it fills up and explodes.
A lot of people say, "Well I don't want to play a game that isn't designed specifically for my platform." I never really understood that. What we really wanted to do was provide a particular kind of experience that we think players, regardless of what kind of hardware they have, will enjoy. I think we can do that very effectively. The Xbox is a pretty decent piece of hardware. I don't think PC players will feel cheesed [cheated] in anyway.
Did you read the article? The game developer obviously wants it to be as broad an event as possible, selling to every possible environment.
Take a look at splintercell. AWESOME game. If they make enough money from branching out to the different platforms, they'll realize that it was a good seller, and develop more games like that. I have it for X-box, and will NOT purchase it for my computer. Someone who doesn't have an x-box should still enjoy the game, and buy it to support the developer/game company/middle men/etc.
I use my computer for work, and so don't like installing a bunch of games on it. My x-box doesn't share that burden. I am very much a "real" gamer, and have specific hardware for such. I also own board games, and a deck of cards. 8-)
("I think that the challenges for us, the places where we really didn't even try, are in the areas of non-combat character interaction.") and as soon as fps games figure this out, all other games will fade to grey...
Seriously, if we could get a game that had the good character development of and online world, and the fun and past pace of a fps, and the strategy of a star/war/redalertcraft type game... well... isn't that what all game developers try to do? then they fail because they run out of money, and all three areas suck... hmmmmmm...
Let me first say that this is completely offtopic, so be it.

Iranians shouldn't be able to view that stuff either, if they are a 7 YEAR OLD. I completely agree with library "censorship" when it comes to pron, or any of the things covered by the highly controversial filters. If you want to surf pron that bad, get a frickin computer at home. Most of the gitngo's around my place have the decency to cover the fronts of the girly mags they sell. Is this infringing on my right to see them? Nope, just a common courtesy to prevent my 7 year old son from wondering why that girl is sucking that guy off or vice-versa.
The only people offended by library filters are people that are trying to look at stuff they should only view in the privacy of their homes, or an enclosed booth at the local smut shop.
Stand on your soap box all day and cry censorship, freedom, whatever. I don't care. This isn't about rights, no one can tell me that we'll EVER loose the right to view nekkid people as consenting adults. Too many people like it.
The simple fact is that That Stuff doesn't belong in a public place free for anyone of any age to access at anytime they want. Period.
Great when you need it, but never as good as the wired version. Response, compatibility, even battery life in some cases. I personally always go wired when it won't be a pain to have a wire. That way I don't have to worry about it not working.
REIGN OF CHAOS PATCH 1.10 FOREWORD The 1.10 patch is an upgrade to Reign of Chaos in preparation for the upcoming release of Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne, available on July 1st. This patch contains numerous new features and upgrades to Reign of Chaos, as well as several balance changes. Due to these significant changes we have moved the version number from 1.06 up to 1.10. We look forward to hearing community feedback on the new features and improved game balance. See you on Battle.net! - Blizzard Entertainment
FEATURES Upgrades and units can be queued in the same queue chain. Buildings can now be queued. A graphic placeholder is displayed to notify where a building is going to be constructed after the command to queue the building has been given. Minimap filters now "remember" your preferences so you no longer have to toggle them on or off in every game. A creep camp minimap filter has been added. When it is used, small circular graphics are displayed on the minimap representing the location of creep camps. Added a third minimap "ally" filter that changes the colors displayed for allies in the minimap. When using "ally" settings, the colors for the player, enemies, and allies now properly adjust in the world frame. Improved defeat conditions address "hide the farm" strategies. An "Occupied" graphic now appears over Orc Burrows, Goblin Zeppelins, Entangled Gold Mines, etc. This allows players to quickly tell how many units are currently occupying a structure or transport. Hero icons for allied players are now displayed on your console if an ally drops from a game or shares unit control. Flying Unit Improvements: We have turned off collision detection for flying units so that they can now easily pass through each other. This will allow air units to move about more smoothly than before. We have also added "separation behavior" so air units will break out of clusters once they reach a destination. Upgrade & Research Complete alerts now include text messages that indicate which upgrade has just finished. Added player handicaps that allow players to limit their units' maximum hit points prior to a game starting. Easy AI effectiveness has been further reduced. Combined with handicaps, the AI can now be severely limited. Normal & Hard AI strategies have been improved. The AI now chooses between a few different build orders per race (mass casters, mass Gargoyles, etc.), which include varying numbers of Heroes. Holding the ALT key displays the health bars for all units on screen. Alternately, holding the "[" key will display friendly unit health bars, while the "]" key will display enemy unit health bars exclusively. Players can now quickly reply to the last "tell" command received by using the "/r" command from in the game (if connected to Battle.net). Waypoints now have a graphical representation in the world frame and on the minimap. Increased the number of waypoints that can be placed at one time. Shops have been given an improved interface which now allow players to select which Hero or unit is purchasing items, units, or services. Added the ability to see the inventory of the purchasing Hero when the shop is selected. Added the ability to sell items back to shops. A new resource indicator is displayed for players whose teammates leave in the middle of a game. The indicator appears in the top right corner of the screen and allows players to see the allied army's current resources. Players can now transfer resources to the allied army of a teammate who left the game. Tomes are now "powerups". This means that if you right-click on them with a Hero selected, the Hero will now automatically use them rather than pick them up. In-game chat messages now display who will be the recipient(s) (All, Allies, a specific player, etc.). Buildings can now be assigned to a single hotkey and can be "tabbed" through similar to unit subgroups. Battle.net: Players can now search for AMM opponents while continuing to chat

ok, so in the first part of this article the guy says
"When a transponder receives a certain radio query, it responds by transmitting its unique ID code, perhaps a 128-bit number, back to the transceiver. Most RFID tags don't have batteries (How could they? They're 1/3 of a millimeter!). Instead, they are powered by the radio signal that wakes them up and requests an answer."
Later he throws in this little paranoia bit about "Do you really want your car's tires broadcasting your every move?"
What's that about? He knows they don't "broadcast" and that you'd have to be within several feet to monitor. You already have a frickin license plate on your car, so who cares? The good side of that is that you could prove that your tires were now living on someone else's car when they were stolen...
And in that line of thinking, how long will it take for commercial "scanners" to come around, so you can locate the chip and neutralize it?
It just seems that people are freaking out about security when in reality, people can already track everywhere you go anyway. How many people out there use cash exclusively? No one I know. I can't WAIT for the day when I just walk out the door with a cart full of stuff and it's automatically taken out of my checking account. that would well be worth someone being able to count how many hammers I buy in a month.
Why sometimes things look "almost" right, but still really weird, when it comes to scenery and phrases used in some games that came over from Japan? I get a kick out of designers that grab some eccentric part of american "life" and assume that everyone uses it. Like pink flamingoes for example. They are funny, but I don't know a single person that actually owns one. There are other examples i'm sure...
Not a monopoly, can you imagine if people were ALLOWED to put stuff in your mailbox? you'd have seventy gradeschool kids a week walking down your street putting ads from every local business person in the city in your box, not to mention the weird stuff.
Besides, why use mail at all anymore? I don't think I've bought a stamp, or mailed a letter in two or three years. Email, phone, Bill pay, phone pay, ups, The only thing I use my mailbox for is recieving magazines, and the few bills that won't send me an email or allow me to autopay them. Shawn
Your average Joe hates Aol and Microsoft the same. They get frustrated at it because they don't know how to use it. I find that a little education and most people are happy with a PC running XP connected with AOL to the internet.
Would I choose that combo? NO Way. But for people that aren't tech savy, MS, MSN and AOL have done a fairly good job of keeping it simple for the end user to accomplish what they think a computer is used for. I run web editing, photo editing, video editing, and a TON of games on my run of the mill PC with XP on it. Microsoft has finally gotten some things right.

How about those instant "clicks" where windows just turns off. Those never even show up in event logs. Can somebody write a widget for that?
