Volcanoes could also be causing the Ozone problem... according to this NASA study : http://denali.gsfc.nasa.gov/research/so2/article.h tml
"Volcanic aerosols have also been implicated in ozone depletion. A year after an eruption, stratospheric aerosols even from equatorial volcanoes can be distributed to polar latitudes and studies show volcanic aerosols can catalyze ozone-destroying chemical reactions. The largest ever ozone hole was measured by TOMS at the end of 1993, and the hole was larger than predicted. If this unexpectedly large increase in the size of ozone hole is due to Mt. Pinatubo aerosols, we may possibly see a return to predicted ozone hole size changes in the next few years, as the Mt. Pinatubo aerosols fall out of the stratosphere.
Recognition and measurement of the volcanic climate signal is vital to understanding global climate change. Before we can quantify any climate change due to human activity we must quantify natural sources of short-term climate variability. The primary source of such variability is from explosive volcanism. TOMS data can both quantify recent volcanic activity and illuminate historic volcanic activity in terms of SO2 output. "
I am no expert... but I do remember from high school that less than 1% of the airborne matter is man made, most of other 99% is due to Volcanoes and forest fires and dust storms. (dust particles reflect sunlight before it reaches earth)
We are presentaly going through a small lull in volcaniic activity (1950-1985), maybe the lack of Volcanic dust has allowed more energy form the sun to reach us and create the warming..
The amount of energy needed to heat up the Planet can only come from the sun.
All Minato's power calculations appear to be wrong (apparently it's a common mistake many scientists make); you can't measure input power using a multimeter when the current drain isn't constant. You can see his workshop in his videos - all his calculations are done using common multimeters and a desktop calculator.
Minato motors use an optical sensor to "switch on" the "stator" (electromagnet) for a fraction of each RPM, so he'd need an oscilloscope and some funky math to figure out how much current the motors are really sucking up (or a stopwatch; and wait for the driving battery to go dead, then estimate based on the battery capacity). It's still a super neat idea though - which seems to boil down to "drive motors from the outside using aligned permanent magnets and momentary pulses from the stator" instead of the traditional "sick the stator in the middle" idea.
Next time I get advertising from anywhere I should under the new law be able to find out how they got my address... should be interesting as almost 90% of addressed advertising is without consent !! It would also apply to E-Mail....
Of course the big problem is that if the information (name & address) is already available to the public.... which of course it is if you pay property taxes !!! then in that case they are not breaking the privacy laws
Ok so long as you all accept by reading this that the idea is patent pending and trademarked then ill tell you how to save the planet.;)
The Plan involves using present technology to collect and retrive large astroids from space and bring them back into a very wide orbit around the earth (further out than the moon) each astroid (more the better) would already be travelling @ zippy speeds but would have small rockets on board that could be used to alter the astroids path into the path of an offending metorite, each astroid could also be part of an off planet metorite spotting network giving us eyes and ears way out in space. By creating a umbrella of controlled astroids we could quickly stop even the largest threats from space.
dont forget the patent...
any interested goverment is free to contact me for full plans.
cant wait tell somone finds a hack to put your own links on any website.. would kinda defeat the link poularity thingy.. maybe search engines would have to actually look at content.
I have used CDR's in the past but due to recent studies showing true life span to be a lot shorter than the manafactuers claims ie for 25 yrs read 2-5yrs ! so I switched to 2nd hardrive back up.
Ok so i know its not on the market yet buuuut,
@150gig per disc and going much higher with blue laser it could be the answer to our prayers in the near future. which is why I invested in this small company CDDD.
oh and yep I would go with 2nd or third ( one offsite ) hardrive for cost, speed, and reliability, some figures I saw for the true life of a CDR is 2yrs or less if accessed too often !!!
most of us are foreigners up here and I guess a few more enlightend souls is always welcome..

Irony is our man-made pollution maybe saving us ?

After reading the story about Kohei Minato's super-efficient motor, reader Chris Drake wrote in with this explanation: www.gizmodo.com
I just cut and pasted , should have previewed...... I love Gizmodo and would never intentionally rip them or some one elses brain off..

This old /. post gives the basics on how to stop a rogue metorite without nukes or tractor's.

When wil they learn to just check salshdot before spending money on research.
I solved this Earth defense thing last year and no one thanked me...

Rim's website mentions that the toughbook well soon have a RIM modem !, that could be a killer combo, always on web/E-Mail !!

I know its a touchy subject with all these microsoft slash-dotters but I slept fine at night knowing that my apple was safe from the worms...
using the websites own calculations it would cost $30.00 for 6hrs @1,000 watt output continous.
.(around 150watts)
Thats a fare bit of power but my 400watt inverter and $100.00 deepcycle battery keeps my server up for 10hrs
its supposed to be a joke about patents.. some people...
could be a problem trying to catch the darn thing and then speed it up via nuke etc
