This is probably part of what they will do with whatever they put out. The user will get a notice saying "you have an unpatched Microsoft IIS web server running. Press (OK) to patch it..."
But they are a company and they are charging for it. Funny out that makes people trust them more.
Square has already said they Final Fantasy XI would come out on PS2, XBOX, PC, and possibly even the GameCube...

Speed Increase over Geforce3

ATi Radeon 8500

I don't know about Nvidia's or ATI's driver support and performance under Linux so this may be a moot point to some, but...
Nvidia on Win32 has generally had VERY good drivers. ATI's have been mediocre and rarely updated, at least in comparison. So that 33% faster than Geforce3 thing may won't make much differnce if that stays the same... Having fast hardware is one thing, but if you don't wring all the performance you can out of the drivers then you will be stuck with good specs and bad benchmarks.
I would love for ATI to have the great driver performance and updates that Nvidia does even though I am using my 2nd straight Nvidia Card right now. Compatition is always good, and it would be nice if we could get to a point where the price and performance wars were as competitive as they are in the CPU market:).
They probably do first person shooters so much (which actually isn't that much afaik. How many have the put out? Quake3Arena, Unreal:Tournament, Tribes2?) except:
1. They can only port games that companies pay them to port, or they buy the rights to, or however it works. They can't just decide they want to port GameX and do it. There has to be an agreement.
2. They have to try and make sure whatever they port will have a good chance of selling well. Unreal and Quake were already proven brands, and many gamers would probably buy it just for the id Software or Epic Megagames logo on the box (plus the penguin).
It would be nice if they could port a great variety of games (and they actually have ported some more offbeat ones such as Railroad Tycoon II and Call to Power 2), but they would have needed a large budget to do it. If they would have had Blizzard and EA Sports games ported I would probably have tried Linux myself by now. Unfortunately it looks like the market and contracts just aren't there (yet?).
Linux has apparently made great strides, but as people have pointed out on slashdot it may not be a desktop OS just yet. Being a gaming OS directly ties in with that.
Makes me wonder how many coins you would have to deposit for that ride...
"Too annoy NASA and orbit the earth for no reason, please insert 25 Million Dollars"
I am Canadian. I think that excuse should suffice. I Bush bash and America bash for a few reasons. Most of them aren't good possibly. Oh well.
Bush is an idiot. There seems to be a fair bit of evidence to this theory. He also has no personality that I can see, which makes him as annoying as hell to watch on tv. At least for me. Canada's Prime Minister manages to have more charisma even though half of his face is paralyzed. He also seems to have a bit of fire in his eyes, and possibly some intelligence there as well. I may not agree with some of what he stands for and he has a record of being a fair sized jerk, but at the very least he is fun to watch in a televised debate and doesn't do every single thing based on what his advisors and teleprompters say.
America is a big target for me because I live so close, and it is so big. It may as well have a gargantuan kick me sign anchored to the California coastline. America could sneeze and it would measure on the richter scale in the Great White North. I am guessing it is much the same for Mexico, and in other parts of the world that aren't even sharing time zones with it.
Canada is well respected and does make some of its own decisions, but at the same time it has its hands tied and connot move too far away from the path the USA follows because we have no choice but to rely on it for Commerce and Trade.
One more thing. This isn't quite as relevent as it would have been during the Cold War and especially the Cuban missile chrisis, but I remember a history teacher showing the target radius that the supposed nuclear missiles would have if fired from Cuba. Guess what, for some reason the Circle of possible annihilation didn't stop directly at the Can/US border. A good sized chunk of Canada could have been blown up too, including most of the population centers, if not all.
Like I said, it may not be as relevent now, but it gives a good idea as to how much the decisions America makes can effect other nations and even the rest of the world as a whole.
So sure, Maybe the USA doesn't deserve all of the bashing it recieves, but it is a big target and therefore easy to hit. It holds a position akin to that of the Roman Catholic Church(maybe not as much now) and Microsoft. It is so big and so prominant that you can have nothing to do with their belief's and mantra's and still be tremendously effected by their decisions.
I stopped buying single issues about 3 years ago when i decided once and for all that I wan't buying comics to collect them, but to read them.
If you are into reading comics and don't give a damn what they will be worth in next month's price guide, just start picking up Trade Paperbacks. Up here in Canada Trade Paperbacks can still be on the expensive side (around the same price as or a few bucks more than your average new hardcover novel), but if you do a bit of research on what you are buying beforehand, this isn't such a big deal because you are more than likely going to enjoy whatever you choose.
I personally stay away from most spandex superhero stuff, except for certain Batman Mini-Series' such as Year One, The Killing Joke, the Long Halloween, and The Dark Knight Returns.
For non-superhero fair I collect a lot of Frank Miller books, Transmetropolitan, Preacher, Bone, Cerebus, and just recently Lone Wolf and Cub.
Man, they should make a TV series out of this. They could get Dom Deluise to host it. With Reality Programming being so big, this would take off like a rocket.
Many people seem to be complaining about the lack of oler titles mentioned. What did you expect? GameSpy has too keep in mind it's target audience/demographic. On top of that you can bet the list was made by members of that audience/demographic. Yeah, not many old games, but us teenage to young adult gamers are going to have a hard time remembering those, for the most part.
Also, in that event it really would knock out any publicity the rioters would be hoping for. Just think about which one of these is more likely to be the headline in a major newspaper:
"Rioters fight WTO injustice"
or:
"Police successfully test new non-lethal riot gear"
That would take out any useful publicity in the protester's eyes.
I tried Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), and got similer results:
Searching 1996-2001...
Results of Search in 1996-2001 db for:
AN/"Advanced Micro Devices": 3562 patents.
Hits 1 through 50 out of 3562
So maybe that is just standard business practice.
"I even decided to buy a Mazda instead of a Honda because the stupid "Who let the dogs out" commercial was annoying me to no end. Take that Honda."
Have you seen the new Mazda commercials?

"We rely too heavily on organizations like EPIC and the EFF to do our work for us and we should be ashamed of that."
I disagree. I think the only way things will change are if people organize. Things don't seem to get done without either a bunch of money changing hands or a bunch of people getting joining the movement.
Try, as an individual, to go up to a government reresientative and talk intelligently about ANY problem that concerns you enough to talk about. See if you can persuade them to even LISTEN.
Now, try the same thing, but find a group or organization that agrees with all that you want to say and is willing to back you up. You may actually get some attention now.
These arguments aren't about who is right and who is wrong, they are about who has control.

This reminds me of the Simpsons episode where the police department sent out mail telling wanted criminals they had won a free speedboat...

So did it get replaced once a system came onto the market that was powerful enough to generate the smoke in a virtual environment?
