Heh. Fat chance of that happening. Next you'll be asking people to stop watching TV. Oh, the humanity!
What part of If you don't want to support this kind of thing don't you understand? I'm not asking people to do anything. I'm not trying to convert the masses. I just wanted to point out an option for people who do care what happens with their money.

I haven't purchased a single cd in almost five years. I'm still waiting to see the effects of my boycott.

At the very least, your money isn't used to pay a lawyer to sue a child.

If you don't want to support this kind of thing, don't buy any more music from RIAA labels.
Use RIAA Radar to find out if an album is published by an RIAA label. If that's the case, and you want it anyway, don't buy it new, but used (for instance at ebay, amazon marketplace or even a used records store).
Support independant labels and artists by buying their stuff!
If you'd still like to support a band that's signed with an RIAA label, go see them live (and maybe buy a t-shirt there).

Whirlpool is not "based on AES". It shares a few similiarities (and a designer) [...] True, that's what I wanted to express. Maybe I should have used different words (non-native speaker here).
I like Whirlpool but it's not fast. I think Tiger is quite a bit faster. Seconded. It also needs fewer memory resources.
Since you seem to know a bit about the subject, do you know anything about the state of the announced Tiger2?
Brute force is always a possibility. But the possibiblity of someone having and willing to spend the resources, technology, money and time to screw you over by brute forcing a 256 bit Whirlpool hash is marginal.
Of course it's possible, that's why cryptographic hash algorithm designers try to make it as hard as possible to find an exactly equal hash value for a different file. That doesn't mean it can't be done. It just has to be hard enough that the result (screw some stranger's computer in your example) doesn't warrant the effort you have to put into the attack.
Nope, not at all. It was a personal reply (on topic) to my email, "signed" with Peter Moore, and it also had a reasonable personal email address of Mr. Moore (not the one I made up for contacting him). I doubt that someone else at Sega would sign an email with the name of the CEO (in that case I would expect something like in your example). Of course, it was only two or three sentences long, but that was more than I expected, considering that I was wasting his time, like you wrote. That's why I'm giving him kudos.
For the record: I'm not an XBox fanboy (i.e. I own another console).
Is this the same Peter Moore that was once president of Sega before he was hired by Microsoft? If yes, I don't think that he counts as a "designer" of the XBox, because IIRC, at the time he switched companies, the XBox was already out some time.
Slightly OT, from personal experience, Peter Moore is a very nice man (despite working at MS;) - I once sent an email to peter dot moore at sega dot com (which I just made up), when he was still president of Sega, and somehow the email reached him and he took the time to write a friendly response. That's what I call dedicated customer service.

What a name for a lawyer... it means friendly in German =)

Ok, thanks!
Thankfully, the most annoying aspect of Burnout 3's soundscape has been removed. There is no DJ radio announcer in the game.
I'm pretty sure that you can turn off the radio announcer in Burnout 3 (at least in the PS2 version).
And it would have been even funnier if you'd have registered your slashdot account just a bit earlier ;)

Misunderstandment. I never made a statement about MD5 not being "free". But MD5 is vulnerable, that's why I pointed out some alternatives.

...better use Tiger or Whirlpool (based on AES). AFAIK there are no known vulnerabilities or attacks for these two yet.
