I use a slide rule rather than a calculator or computer in situations where it's appropriate. I have a cute little one I carry in my pants pocket, comes in very handy.

Is that a slide ruler in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?

AFAIK, external links are not allowed on ebay.

  8. Some other tidbits on Apple Replaces B/W White iPods with Color Screens · · Score: 5, Informative

The iPod photos have lost the "photo" part of their name.

The 30GB iPod is no more.

  9. New iPods! on iTunes 4.9 With Podcasting Support · · Score: 1, Informative

The "normal" 20GB iPod is gone from the Apple Store.

The new iPods have features like the former iPod photos (but apparently lost the "photo" part of their name), i.e. color display and photo capabilities, and in addition 15 hours of battery life and podcast support.

There are only 20GB and 60GB models, which sell for $299 and $399, respectively. The 30GB model is no more.

One example would be if you want to show your vacation video to your parents/friends/etc.

Of course, you could always burn it on a DVD or bring your powerbook, but chances are, you already take your iPod with you whereever you go, and could have a video session on a whim.

  22. Re:Good ridence on Australian P2P Sites Disappear Overnight · · Score: 1

Let me start with saying that I'm not trying to defend file sharers. I'm not one of them. I also agree on your thoughts on inadequate sentences. But...

Perhaps now, with more of these File sharers servers going dark, I will be able to start to enjoy lower prices on my software and music [...]

Dream on. Most likely, this will never happen. The music industry didn't lower the prices of CDs since their initial rollout in the 80s, like they wanted us to believe. They are actually thinking about increasing the price for music downloads now that it is accepted by millions of users. What makes you believe they would lower their prices if they somehow managed to decrease file sharing, given their track record?

No, face it, even if all file sharing services all over the world would shut down over night, they would not lower their prices.

  23. Re:See this from another angle on Software Patents In The European Union Continued... · · Score: 4, Interesting

If the directive is approved, it will make it clear that any software patent granted up until now was unlawful and is therefore null and void. This will mean that patent holders will be forced to re-apply for their patents as soon as the directive is made law!

    You are so wrong.

Software patents are not legal in the EU under current laws. But we already have about 30.000 software patents here. Nobody cares (well, those who are against software patents complain, but nobody in power cares). The patent office just continues granting those patents.

And you think that if they now pass a law that would allow software patents, that would render them null and void? No, all those patents will remain, because then, they will be actually unprohibited and retroactively made valid.
