    Well, before smartphones became popular, I'd say that Japanese phones on average blew away Western phones. Western models were never (or rarely) available in Japan and vice versa. Anyways, t's not a matter of a cool phone available in the States not being available in Japan, it's a matter of a cool phone having been available in the States. Period.

    There's no such thing as non-network locked phones in Japan, so there's no such thing as just simply "picking a carrier". Try again.

    Working great for me! I got an HTC Desire on Softbank. I've had Froyo for months.

    I've seen the side-by-side comparisons. Where VP8 is inferior, it's only slightly so, and in a few cases actually produced better results.

    In short, if you don't put them side-by-side for an in-depth comparison, you won't even notice the difference.

    The ultimate goal of "competition" is to achieve monopoly status, by eliminating competitors. That is what "competition" means.

    If you're a jock, that's what it means. In the context of economics, that's not what it means. At least, not what it's supposed to mean.

    I would place marijuana somewhere between Tobacco and Alcohol -- Both of which are already legal.

    Except that alcohol and nicotine are both physically addictive, where as THC is not. (I stay away from all three, at any rate)
