Yup. I have a high metabolism, so I usually have to worry more about net calorie intake more than how healthy said calories are. And per-calorie fast food is cheapest.

60 cents? wow. best I can do around here is 99, though it still satisfies your point, even taking into account that I need about 3 to get anywhere near enough food.

I agree with most of your points, but I will say that if things are tight enough, buying much more than a week's food at a time just isn't possible. The money isn't there.

I think this discussion is more about getting KIDS decent meals, and also it's really all quite circumstantial. You imply that you have a car, so that makes it easier. Getting home by 6-6:30 isn't all that late, so that makes it easier. You must not have a job that leaves you too drained to cook, so that makes it easier.

This. So much this. And if you're poor enough, even executing that can be difficult. The cheapest fast food can offer seems to consistently be cheaper than most any meal I know how to cook.

    Well, granted.

I do think that most decent tvs do some scaling more interesting than nearest neighbor, though for the most part that seems to be the burden of the output device, hence upscaling dvd players and the like.

In any event, I know the difference and was hence expressing disagreement with the AC :)

I was bullied through grade school until one day, at recess, I saw one of the school bullies messing with some other kid and kinda lost it. I don't remember too specifically past that I tackled and pinned him, but undesirables generally fucked off after that. I think I got lucky since even though it brought a crowd the adults either didn't notice or didn't care.

Why do we even like the idea of sales tax again?

It still seems silly to me, I don't see why we can't just have income tax. Of course, we can also tax some luxury items/things we want to deincentiveise, etc.

Sales tax ends up being a sort of flat income tax on most lower income people anyway, at least In states where it applies to food. It seems that it would make a lot more sense to only have the people that can afford to pay taxes pay them (that is, people that have income to spare).

As is, sales tax makes it that much harder to survive at the lower end in the US.
