Couple things. Conan did like 4 episodes in season 4 and a couple spilling into Season 5. From the commentaries, he barely had a real desk. He got hired for Late night more from his work on SNL and Lampoons then Simpsons.
Second, since the very first Series Episodes, the animation has been done by a South Korean animation studio. I believe the only American animation done, were the Tracy Ullman shorts, and the occasional 1st season fixes.
It should have been released Xmas 2003. That was the orginal expected date, instead Japan got GT: Prologue, a demo you could buy only in Japan. Then it was 1st half of 2004, and June came and went, then September, nope. Then they say they are having problems with Online play and are forced to remove it for this version, but we'll get it out to you November 15th, heck lets run some commericals, and have all the Mags run special GT4 covers. Hmm, nope special last minute delay, um how about Dec. 22nd. Nope, wait, Japan Receives it Decemeber 28th. US, and Europe release? Maybe in March. There is a point for bug fizxing, and I know they are perfectionists, but this is starting to look like a case of feature bloat. 740 cars?? A fanatic will proabbly never drive half of them, and most will probably stick to a stable of 30-50. Lots of varied cars is a hallmark of the series, but if it causes a 15 month delay, and confuses the advertisers/reviewers it might not be worth it.
if they are not going to consider turning lanes, there is a Much simpiler solution. A Bridge. If every vehicle is only going straight, an elevated bridge is the solution.
the other problem with this solution is average car length. An accepted Average car length is 19 ft. But the first semi truck that goes through this intersection gets t-boned.
This is barely a concept techonology. Every one thinks they are a Transportation Engineer because they drive cars, the problem is always much more complex.
Network management is not a solution to transportion problems.
I may be blind, but I think they left out the infamous Tire Fire. It was put out in one episode, but restarted in others. I think it should be somewhere east of downtown. When Artie's Eye in the Sky does his traffic reports, its clearly visble from Downtown and near the Highway. Seems like a very obvious thing to miss.
This idea will never make it past union approval. If you can replace 5 laborers with one geek with a laptop, just to make it safer for the laborer's it will never happen. Especially with a technology that would actually cost the construction companies more money. Like any company, they are profit margin driven, but unlike corporate cultures, they are also driven by the Unions. Anything that takes jobs away will not happen. In addition, if the Government Mandates use of the new Cones/Barrels they will do everything they can to screw up the plan, and get bad PR.
We are an IBM shop (By state mandate) so I am a bit biased. You said manufacturer versions are model specific, but I doubt IBM's is, because they use the same PC doctor program for the last 10 years worth of laptops, workstations and x86 based Servers. It comes on a bootable floopy (or on servers a bootable partition just for it). It does full HD, floppy, CD, and memory scans. It will test the standard AT external ports (Parallel, Serial, PS/2) It runs VGA mode scans, and will test some features of the AGP port. Admittably it won't test stuff like sound cards, or many built-ins, but I doubt any Paid program would either.
To find it go to IBM support pages and start looking for Diagnostics, you will eventually find it.
From my experince most Mechanical Engineers would call someone to change their tire for them. Admitly I don't work in a Mechanical Eng. Field, but I haven't met one yet that does his own car maintenance.
How could nobody have mentioned, one of the most highly anticipated games of 2002, which finally came out in spring 2003, with gamers chanting "It took so long it must be good."
Why Master Of Orion 3 of course. God, I want my money back, and the month of my time I spent on the Quicksilver forums. A game that was both Unbelievably Hard to play, yet with such an idiotic AI that it was easy to win by doing nothing. They actually attempted to make a game that could play itself, that you oversaw which decisions it made for you. A few desperate patches later, and you can find a squeal to a beloved childhood game in the bargain bin for $5.99.
In addition, if you're in the area you might as well stop at The House on the Rock http://www.thehouseontherock.com/ A house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, so if you're into Architecture, it's a place to see. Including the remarkable infinity room.
However, it is so much more then a simple house, it is a series of endless exhibits of the bizarre and wonderful. Music boxes, Victorian dolls, and carousel horses, are a few of ones I can remember. Neil Gaiman does a fairly accurate description in his novel American Gods.
Of course, if you want weird the Circus World Museum, http://www.circusworldmuseum.com/ is also nearby.
And then what about the Million dollar custom Server-Client software that runs on those Win NT4 machines? What about the Oracle Database that all of the servers and clients access. Real "Servers" are used for more then FTP and Web Servers. And in this economy no one can afford to save $1000 by using linux, and then have to redesign your entire application suite.
They did test it with a group of Novices that tested Normal on the Visual skills test. This was on NPR last night, they interviewed the Scientist. After only 10 hours of "training" on Medal of Honor, the Novices showed marked improvements. They mention how they beleive it is the Fight or Flight type of responses in these games with a simulated peril that they believe teaches the brain so quickly. The brain learns very fast when its in danger. Learn Calculus in 2 Days with a gun pointed at your head.
Finally another person that appreciates Cannibal: The Musical. I bought the DVD just because of Trey's reputation, and while it is obviously a Student movie, it was very funny and remarkably well done, considering budget. I passed the DVD around here at work, and people were asking me for their time back, that it was such a waste. Only my boss said it sucked, but he liked it because it sucked (in a very Troma way). Watching it, and picking up on the Cartmen-eqse inflections in Trey's voice, you can tell the Fat little boy has been with him for a Long time.
I have a Engineer here who worked on the Chicago system, most of the sensors were put in over 30 years ago. The first system was put in on the Eisenhower in 1963.
First, during the times of the day when people care about traffic data, in the US at least, less then 10 percent of the traffic has more then 1 person per vehicle. Additionally, there is a signifcant population that carry 2 cell phones (work and personal). I do not believe the density of cell phones to be a problem. During heavy traffic congestion, when cars are packed 10 feet around you, I doubt this technology is accurate enough to determine a difference between 2 cars that close.
More important is the relative speed. By the time traffic is going less then 15 mph, the damage is done, and congestion ocurrs. Traffic engineers need to know when the main flow of traffic starts to reduce speed to be able to make corrections to help anyone.

Traffic Cabinets also frequently have bits of paper like Log books, Instruction Manuals, and Labels in them that Ants and Rodents find as nice food and bedding sources. Traffic cabinets in the Northern States also have small space heaters, to keep the electronics above NEMA specs. This makes them like Rodent hotels, especially if you have lazy contractors that like to use "spray foam" instead of good Duct seal to seal conduits. There are more fiber hits in the US from Rodents then back hoes.
I'm an onsite State contractor, and I've seen many of the same things.
Except for the rule about there having to be a government employee on site for contractors to stay. If that were the case, this office would be open 4 days a week. Almost every state employee takes friday's off. Many do this to save on expenses or run a side business. This makes friday's a good time for me to get work done, without a lot of hassle. Almost like working on saturday, without the overtime.
We've seen some crazy rules regarding travel and training also. We are a satilete office, and our main office is in another county. The rule orginally said no out of county travel without District Director approval. The State employee's couldn't even go to HR without approval then. Sometimes they just send us contractors to represent them at meetings in other districts because it is so difficult for them to get approval.
It is getting lean on projects though. You want to do a minor server upgrade, but can't afford it without neglecting all reduancy. We will be paying for the lean times for many years, as workstations age, and upgrades become become more difficult. Even if the budget does increase, we will have to hire a lot more people just to make all the updates that should have come 1 or 2 at a time.
Through the entire opening sequence all I could think of was this is a rip-off of Cowboy Bebop. Very similar, Space traders/Bounty Hunters looking for that next job in a world with wild west ethics. Four Main charcters plus dog/four main charcters plus what 5-6 secondary charcters. That was the only problem with Firefly, too many charcters.
Billboards have nothing to with "free" highways. Billboards are owned by private billboard companines and are put on private land. No advertisment is allowed on any state Right of Way. That is why the signs are 30 plus feet from the pavement. Plus your arguement is false because there is nothing stopping billboard companies from putting up a billboard on a building or sign next to a tollway. Freeways are paid by federal and state taxes. Tollways are built with federal dollars but maintained by toll fees.

In fact the traffic industry does use Video Detection to count cars.
http://www.iteris.com/rs/products/vvs.html
http://www.autoscope.com/products.htm
These are just 2 popular solutions.
They use video processors and fixed focus cameras to determine the presence of vehicles on the road.
Some security cameras use a similar type of system for intrusion alarms.
This is not new technology.

You cab allready ask for a free copy of the Toyota Prius demo of Grant Turismo 4.
It also happenes to be the only way you can play GT4 on an stock PS2 right now till the full game comes out in November.
The Demo though is quite boring, and only worth maybe an hour of gameplay at most.
Right in the Middle.
And the Tire fire has to be Much closer to town.
