I wouldn't put it that way. What they are getting at is only those that take action are bad. I'm sure a large percentage of the population would be considered bad if the mere private thought was the only criteria required. I'm thinking of just a basic work day, driving to work and someone cuts you up, you wish something bad would happen to them. Only if you act on that impulse are you going to be considered bad.

Now, I'm not trying to defend pedophiles but look at this objectively for a moment. Currently it's considered very bad to have sex with a child, but look back 50 or 60 years and I'm sure the same moral outrage was directed also at anyone having sex with someone of the same gender. The reason it is different now is people understand that it is not a sickness or illness of the mind that can be cured. Sexual orientation is just another part of what makes up an individual. The same can be said about pedophiles which is where we have the problem. We want to be able to cure it but we can't. Any method taken is likely to be equally morally objectionable as the problem itself.

When there isn't enough choice it probably won't matter whether the public supports it or not. Electric isn't an option for a lot of people unless they have secured carports/garages. The cost of a conversion to LPG isn't quite justifiable yet, it would take many years to scratch back the expense. And I'm sure if this became the mainstream fuel then it would become as heavily taxed as petrol is right now.

Here in the UK the prices keep going up until it hits a threshold and protests start. At the moment (and with current exchange rates) the average price per US gallon is about $6 though it can fluctuate a lot depending on where you live. I have one gas station nearby charging as much as $6.50. Although in Europe the UK is expensive, its not the worst. There also appear to be a large number of people who just don't care enough to notice how much they pay, according to this story, some people thought the price per litre was 3 pounds!

I shall! It sounds like that PDF995 software has taken a very naive approach to PDF creation. Both Adobe's printer driver and the one available to KDE create proper PDF documents where the text remains as text. I just 'printed' the jsr 170 spec (something like 238 pages) from kpdf. The generated PDF was 1.6MB to the original 2.3MB, also the text in the generated file was still selectable.

Personally I would take spare batteries, a backup storage device and a solar battery charger :)

I also doubt most people would be in those situations and as such the market for manual cameras will continue to dwindle but not die out. Somewhat similar to outdated transportation, there will always be a place for horses, camels and husky teams. It just won't be for the masses and large companies out to make profit.

I find that FBI warning a nice refreshing change from what I'm used to. Some region 2 DVD's have warnings for the majority of european languages. The worst I've seen was 22 warnings at 10 seconds each. Luckily the menu button is still active at this point or much player abuse would have occurred. I'm also beginning to see a trend in forced playing anti-piracy adverts and badly designed forced country selection screens where I need to press the down button 50 odd times till I get to the right frickin country.

I was using list view in Windows Explorer the other day and renamed a file in it. I was shocked to discover it didn't automatically reposition itself in the list based on its new name.

Thats arguably a feature. Sorting is something that should happen when you first open a view onto a folder or when you change the sort criteria. Sorting should NOT mean that when you rename a file it suddenly jumps to another part of the list, making it seem like it disappeared, or alternatively cause your place in the list to suddenly jump. That's an unexpected side effect, NOT a feature.

I thought I'd add something more to this point. If you're viewing a folder and an application creates a new file in it then the file appears at the very end of the list. Way easier to spot it as you're likely to have an active interest in the file. If you want the folder sorted, hit refresh.

Since I'm a debian person here is all that is needed to get a working apache installation...

    apt-get install apache

Nowt else. If its an rpm based distro then its a bit more work but the rpm program will tell you what dependencies are required or you could use yum or apt if its available.

Course then you have to configure it but that would be the same regardless of how it was installed. There is also lovely documentation with any distribution that covers this sort of thing. There are also some books available dedicated to the command line.
