There lies the problem. Many Linux distros have gone from being over configurable a few years ago to bring even more tightly locked down than Windows or MacOS. Often there is a way to change the behavior of the of the window manager but often the option is deeply hidden within the bowels of the configuration manager that you will never find it unless you know where to look, assuming it is there at all.
I'm guessing you spend more time dicking around with your desktop than actually working, and I'd say that would be why Unity is such a big deal for you.

But then you had 50 crap channels you never watched along with the 5 that you did. Now there are 240 crap channels to go along with the 5 that you watch. Oh wait TLC is all reality shows and Discovery is pseudoscience crap so there are only 3 channels you watch now. But hey you have over 240 channels with nothing on now.

I tried ubuntu. Unity is so bad it had me runnin back to... Windows 8! (I'm trying kubuntu now. It's a significant improvement.)
