    Why anyone uses it I'll never understand

    Actually few people understand. The ones who understand are CEOs and deciders. SAP is a gigantic ERP that deals with almost anything. It's build on a solid architecture, has its own system, language and database, and is highly customizable (people do SAP customization for a living).

  9. Provided that the Universe has at least 100 bn galaxies which have an estimated average of 100 bn of stars each, that's 10^22 stars. We will not run out of planets anytime soon.

    If the algorithm is well designed and its complexity well calculated no bad surprise is to be expected. And anyway most algorithms, based on recursion or not, do not dive very deeply (i.e. do not consume much stack), since the time complexity, depth wise, is usually exponential and too much depth implies too much time.

    Stackoverflow and Stackexchange more generally do address all OP's concerns. The best answer is near the top, off topic, trolls, and otherwise annoying people are quickly set aside (i.e. the bottom, or even deleted by an admin if really abusive). Some people don't like the way they're treated on SO, so they don't post there (and ask here how to deal with agressive users), while they look at SO existing Q&As...

    Because it's biggest advantage is also one of it's greatest inefficiencies and frankly on a large project chances are you may not need it all

    In this case call it something different. Git is known for that.

    Another strong argument against the death penalty.

  25. When two computers with cameras and screens can beat a pair of humans at pictionary, I'll be impressed.

    Given that, recently, computers do way better than humans at facial recognition, pictionary sounds that a big deal compared to poker.
