I'm really at a loss as to why people pay $800-1000 for a smartphone in today's market.
If you want a high-end iPhone, that's the price to pay. Unlike Samsung in the Android world, the iPhone has no competitors. iPhones and Android based phones are still very different, mainly in terms of security, and ergonomics.
In other words, there are a whole lot of ways to destroy a city in & after an earthquake
Interesting, but that was 100 years ago. Sendai (big Japanese city) was strongly hit by the earthquake in 2011 and almost no one died from the tremors or fire, most deaths were due to the tsunami that followed (a few minutes later).
This is about this slashdot, of course ; Japanese people don't read this one, and thus don't care about what "ft" is. Duh, have to explain everything...
Come on, it's only speculation. "This fuels the suspicion that the Chinese executive is held as a hostage". Even it'd be so, the gov will never admit it.
Hmm, yeah but we usually consider that on average papers are on the same quality line. No, the difference maybe is in China not publishing major advanced AI research. Yes, competition.
The end of the solar system is about 122 astronomical units (AU) away from the sun
Voyager 2 is also at 120 AU from earth, and is said to have left our solar system. So "farout" is outside?

For all MS cares this is still better than Bing pointing to a page detailing how Libre/Open Office is superior.
Not sure (for MS). Bing seeks credibility. These links help in this regard.
Fortunately, the torrent download links are down
Slashdot has changed :-(
Totally. And the SDD size is a bigger lie (e.g. 32 GB advertised, 10 system, 22 usable).
Before, of course, users provide their real gender... that search looks very manly, imo ......
Mine that data to determine what women (really) want!
Seriously.
Nope. Japan has a huge labor shortage, and many aged people keep working (have you ever looked at who drives the million taxis in Tokyo?).
Well you need also to learn the conversion tables.
The hardest part will be to search the debris to find the go-pro.
There are two types of countries in the world. Those that use the metric system and those that have walked on the moon.
Ironically, to go to the moon they used the metric system...

Pink Floyd also made The Wall, obviously way more effective.

undetectable
not undetectable ; satellites know where it starts.
Didn't think so.
a wall.
I won't spend my holidays there.

It's a Gram, don't use pounds! That thing weights 1360.78 grams.

You are mean to all these South American countries.
Why do people always read "EU" when they see "Europe"?
Please tell your American friends that EU is not the short form of Europe.
