Precisely. I could put a solid brick of steel in a box and label it fragile. Sure, you take said brick and slam it into something else solid at a million miles an hour, I'm pretty sure you'll "break" it. It's freight shipping. Assume your package will be dropped from a height of 6ft, possibly repeatedly, and package your goods to compensate. There's a reason why whenever I order something off NewEgg, it comes in its original package (which is designed for shipping, as is) which is then stuffed inside another box with 12+ inches of packing peanuts on all sides, and the outer box is packed to the brim with peanuts so settling and shifting isn't possible.

It takes an almost imperceptible amount of water flow to achieve maximum convection. All you need to do is ensure there isn't a "pocket" of warm/cold air/water/other fluid next to the object and that's it. Try it sometime with some frozen steaks or something. Put one under the tap, turn it on halfway with cold water and time how long it takes to thaw, then do it again with the water on a tiny trickle. Sure, full on it will be faster, but only marginally, and at the cost of using 100x or more water.

Then you have to tap a ridiculously small square on the completely blank screen to go back a slide? Guess you could just use the arrow keys to do that...oh, wait...

Oh, maybe you could just plug one of the cheap and nifty Logitech presentation-oriented mice into the usb slot...oh, never mind, can't do that...

Hell, you can buy a laptop perfectly powerful enough to run Powerpoint 2003, 2007 or 2010, a logitech presentation style mouse, a vga cable and a freaking projector suitable for a small to medium sized conference room (sure, it'll need to be darkened, as the cheapie projectors aren't very bright at all) and still have enough money left over for a nice steak dinner compared to the price of a stupid iPad.

Your "in practice" video pretty much absolutely reinforces the post you are replying to about needing to use a laptop to give a presentation, since the iPad is utterly worthless for doing so, as demonstrated in that video.

If one installs crappy insecure software such as Java, Adobe-anything, etc, and doesn't keep it updated and run routine virus scans to keep the possible damage from exploits to a minimum, one deserves what one gets. I think you meant it's making it more convenient to pirate than to buy. It takes 15 seconds to find and click on a torrent, and just as long to download (or less) than the "legal" content. When I'm done, I have music/video that I can listen to on any device I want, watch on anything I want, easily put on my phone, transcode, etc. Until the content is available DRM free and at reasonable prices ($0.05 a song, $0.20 per 30 minute tv show, $1 a movie at most) I'll continue to use torrents. Even at a mere $0.05 a track, it will still cost MORE than I paid for my droid phone to fill up its SD card once.

Unless your desktop system is still running a 386, transcoding on the fly isn't going to drastically increase sync times. USB maxes out at about 29MB/s, and most devices you'd sync max at even less than that. The mid-range microSD card in my droid tops out at about 15-20MB/s write speed. My desktop has no issues transcoding songs at 1 song every 5-10 seconds, which is as fast as the receiving media can handle.

In a modern society, one should have the freedom to say and do ANYTHING they want, UNTIL it imposes on the rights of others. If I want to post of facebook true and factual information about the working conditions at Acme Co, I should be able to do so. If I post truth, and the truth hurts Acme Co, then that's their problem, and they may take me to court over it and, having proved what I said is true, lose. If I post lies, I should be held liable for slander/libel and treated as such. Whether it's a private company owned by one person or a multi-national corporation, they should, in no way, be allowed to coerce, punish, or harm anyone, employee or not, for expressing opinions or stating factual information in a public setting.

Viruses/spyware are easily avoided by not being an idiot. There's plenty of applications "close to iLife", some good ones are made by Microsoft and are free no less. Apple hardware is pretty much "middle of the pack" in terms of build quality and durability, being beaten pretty badly by Asus and Sony. Windows 7 + Microsoft Security Essentials (free) + Microsoft Live apps suite + Google Apps suite = everything 99% of home users will ever need. Not to mention if iLife isn't enough, Adobe products on Windows have features left out in Mac versions. I don't remember which, but I watched dozens and dozens of Adobe TV programs teaching myself some Photoshop skills, and I distinctly remember hearing, more than once, "if you are on the Windows platform, you can click here and do so-and-so shortcut feature, sadly Mac users, this feature doesn't exist on the Mac version", never once did I hear the opposite (not claiming there may not be cases of such, just that in dozens and dozens of videos I didn't see it).

I'm no fanboy either, but having to do IT support all day at work and "free" IT support for friends and family, I make sure they don't drink any of the Apple koolaid just so I don't have to deal with endless "how do I get program X from work to install" and "why doesn't my popcap game work" calls.
