I hear you, I just don't believe it. I've learnt many times over not to trust large corporates. The glossier their image, the grubbier their upper-echelon morals.
So, if your mother decides to use a standard door lock instead of also installing a dead-bolt, she's to blame for the consequences of a break-in, rape, torture and her murder? She was asking for it, right?
Yes, people who don't use encryption are either stupid, ignorant, naive, arrogant or all of the above. This doesn't mean Google (or anyone else) should go around sniffing their traffic.
You do realise that in some countries folks don't lock their homes? Not because they're stupid, but because they live in safe law-abiding communities. What Google did (or any other criminal assfuck) is akin to an outsider walking into this community and trying doors until an unlocked one is found.
It's criminal behaviour no matter how you sugar coat it or how ignorant/stupid the public was. Google should be prosecuted to the fullest extent allowed by law in every single country they engaged in this criminal behaviour. We'd expect our law enforcement servants to do this to any other criminal, so why not Google?
You really think they were being honest out of the goodness of their hearts? You don't think perhaps they came "clean" as a way of pre-empting an embarrassing disclosure from a whistle-blower?
As the First Poster mentioned, after the first year (or six months) the numbers will be reduced way down. I remember starting my CS diploma years ago; the first year the classes were stuffed like sardine cans, the second year we could get down to real study without the noisy idiots who thought it would be a walk in the park. Sadly, there were a lot less pretty chicks in the second year as well...
Three keys? That's almost worse than using the mouse to paste:) Tell me where I can change the hot-keys to paste (globally, ie, across all apps) and I'll be a happy camper.
With programming (ie, lots of text work) and rapid, minimal-mouse use, I prefer highlighting, then being able to paste (globally) with shift-ins (a-la windows and kde).
At the very least, why can't this behaviour be configured in gnome?
I can't think of any response to that, except to say it's sad.
It reminds of the feeling I had this morning listening to the radio (in violent South Africa): a one year old baby was violently beaten by African house-robbers (now in hospital in critical condition). The previous day a 16 yo was violently raped then stabbed to death while on the way to school (the rape and murder is not the shocking part [if you're a South African, you know what I mean]), the hard bit of info to bear was her animal-like screaming which alerted neighbours (they found the African killer sitting on her body having a breather after a job well done - he subsequently ran away).
I hear you, but as a programmer, most of my work involves 80 col terminals. With my two 23" samsungs I can have six terms each with a decent sized font.

Sounds similar to the MySQL crowd's statements about triggers slowing down the database, so who needs 'em?
Oh, the mirth.
Study of Sir Isaac Newton is dropped in favor of examining scientific advances through military technology
Jesus on a donkey, I can hear Rumsveld and Cheney laughing maniacally in the background.
Provided I can delete these "permanent" tabs. If not, fuck off.
lol.
My, my, you certainly are a plank. You strike me as a follower of Blossom Goodchild et al.
Christ, you must be one of those boring smelly people at parties that everyone tries to avoid.
We're not talking about a condom here, buddy.
I agree, "healthful" doesn't sound right.
Anyway, after posting I did a few quick searches (after I doubted myself), and sure enough, it's a legit word. Loathsome as it is.

Exactly. Another use is plain old swap space. I find it works extremely well on heavily loaded machines where lots of memory is required.
You see, this is my problem. There is no centralised copy/paste mechanism in gnome. Every bloody app has it's own bloody idea.
In KDE (or windows, mac, etc), copy/paste is copy/paste. It just works. Gnome is crap in that way.

copy 'n paste between applications in gnome without using right-click menus?
erm, scratch that. I haven't had my 4th cup of coffee this morning yet.
I too do not like my kids to eat unhealthful food. It's very badful.
aaaaww look, we have a facebook fanb0i! That wooshing sound you swatted at was not a fly, it was the whole point about right of privacy.
Past behaviour is always a factor.
Yes, we have lots of those who phone our helpdesk every friggin minute.
Why So Much Focus on Cows?
'coz they make delicious burgers, and therefore vital to any self-respecting westerner. Please try and keep up with the conversation.
Sometimes people (fan0is) seem to forget they're a for-profit corporation first, do-no-evil (purported) paragon second.

Sad and mind-numbingly frightening.
