At ApacheCon 2001, I met a guy who claimed to have created fidonet back in the 80s with a friend of his , which they sold to a few universities. I can't remember his name though. Anyone know anything about this?
Science and the knowledge of it is a threat to those in power. Those in power are pretty much setting an example for how people should live their lives. So I would say no, it is unlikely that a great thirst for the knowledge of science will happen very soon.
Its always been amazing to me the change in the way the net feels when going to various websites. This change happened around 97 or 98. It was different before, it seemed bigger. Now it always feels like the net is smaller than before, even though it is still growing.
Actually, my first comment was not meant to be funny, it was meant to poke fun of rackspace for giving in to these blagrant attempts to steal away what are expected to be personal freedoms.
IMHO, Rackspace just lost the right to complain about these civil abuses going on in the world. If more people would stand up to them, they would happen less.
Back in '98 I remember reading an article about one of the guys working on these research teams and made a headband that enabled him to type ~30 words/min. What happened to that device?
Yet despite the energy and activism of many youth, less than half of eligible voters, ages 18-24, voted in recent national elections.
Sigh, Read my current thoughts on this. People keep saying that there are so few eligable voters actually voting, when in reality, this has been the case througout most of America's history. There is not so much of a down trend as they like to make out.
Perhaps something that this child could do is use a puzzle map of the world. I don't know where you'd find something like that. I used to have a puzzle map of the U.S. when I was younger.
This probably couldn't go very far, but its a start and might make the father think of other things to try.
Probably none, since Indiana University was not on the list.
I would like to hire you. If it is what I think it is. suso@suso.org
Right now its like a sauna in my office that I share with a few other people and I'm not getting much done. Warm offices make me uncomfortable.
Computer: $700
Paying for officialy licensed windows versions of all the software I use on a regular basis in Linux: ~$2000
No Steve Balmer. I would say the software piracy is due to the expensive nature of software. Idiot.
I'm going to have to fill up the tank and get me one of these things and drive through the coves of rural america.

US, UK, Sweden, Swiss... same difference.

FBI: Bend over
Rackspace: *whimper* ok...

I read somewhere that Heather Graham is also going to be doing a cameo (not sure how) in the game with Oliver Clothesov
I thought for sure that jizz mopper at the porn store would rank up there.
I think I'd try it for a while, maybe I'd dual boot to it for a while, but I think I'd still use Linux full time.
Of course they would try that. But at least I would die for what I believe in instead of these wusses at rackspace who bended over.
If the FBI came and tried to take one of the suso.org hard disks for some independent and free speech website, I would punch them in the mouth.
What the fuck is wrong with this country? People have forgotten what our freedoms mean.
screw postgres .. if i need a trigger i'll buy
a glock
Haha, now that.. that's funny.
but now I'm using Postgres and am lovin it. It's one of those things when you didn't know what the hell you were doing before you knew about it.
Postgres is where it is at.
Call me when they have something to cure a slashdot addiction.
Ok, you're right, I guess my post was offtopic.
Maybe it didn't have much content, but you could have just left it alone and not moderated it at all if it wasn't that interesting.
I was just looking for such a review of GPUs last night.

Aww damnit, I was going to buy a soundblaster card today too.
