A friend of mine put a rounded neodynium magnet on top of his laptop, right over the hard drive. he liked how the magnet started to spin on top of his laptop, he didn't like how his laptop was unusable after. He destroyed about 10% of his drive's sectors completely.
So my suggestion is open the hard drives, get the magnets out. power the drives up and drop the magnets onto the drive.
One of the strangest failures I've ever seen is a drive which will work perfectly when held vertically and do nothing when horizontal. I still use it, as a backup of backups... Just for fun.
But then you are still dependent on someone else. I prefer to host all my software on my own metal, so I have the control over my own data. I know this isn't possible for everyone but the only way I like SaaS is SaaStM, Software as a Service to Myself.
only repeat the last step. more efficient in the long run.

after having finished portal 2 yesterday, that sounds like an awesome idea. obviously you'd need a wiimote like controller for the portal gun. i'd really want that.
There is a simple solution, use noscript. The first days might be a pain to get it to work for you, but it makes firefox run good. The only problem is that you are now stuck with firefox.
For me it is easy when making an appointment with someone so i don't even have to leave my mail client to check my availability and schedule it right away. I'm such an chaotic person that i'd forget about an appointment just because i get distracted by something in another window. So for me it makes total sense.
On the other hand, I used a macbook during my internship, and having two seperate programs was also nice.
In my experience windows runs faster on a virtual machine than on bare metal. I think it has something to do with linux's filesystem cache. Ofcourse this makes your windows install useless for gaming because the 3d drivers in virtualbox and vmware are a fun toy, but not good enough for games.
My solution is having 2 physical hard drives, a small(80gb) windows drive with games and a 500gb drive with linux. I simply decide whether i am going to do something useful or have fun. This may be harder with a laptop unfortunately.
There is, but we don't want to tell you about it...
But if it's still early in your career and you aren't sure yet of what to specialize in this may be a great way to find what you like.
It's a shame that link redirects to /career/ instead of staying at /jobs/...
def Function: return 42
then include documentation stating the user should start the program with the command /usr/bin/env python3 askquestion.py
easy!
then please give us the source to that dialer so we can port it to *bsd so we can have a real system.
real men use su. even for shutting down a laptop.
So if you were to tie this to xinerama and vnc you whould have something like dmx? Altough I never got dmx to work, maybe because I'm a little lazy...
allright, kvm. it still uses qemu for the non-cpu hardware.

seconded, the rants are the reason for me to read slashdot!
You murderer!
echo ''sudo aptitude update && sudo aptitude -y upgrade' > update.sh; chmod +x update.sh
./update.sh

That may be your opinion, but I think you should read some more.

My reason for jailbraking is running openssh, i simply want it on all of my machines. If it doesnt run openssh i dont want it.
