"Durian" is the code name that they've used since before the name "Sintel" was chosen and publicly announced. It fits with their other fruit code names, Orange, Peach, and Apricot. Next is project Mango.
Let's hope they get the eye candy right, because for the first time I can say that that is the only reason that an Apple product looks better. There, I said it.
I have to say I agree with you there, it seems like they made the change for the sake of being different. Mac OS X has an excuse, as I believe that the buttons have been on that side since the first GUI they created, correct?
I would argue that defaults are very important, and cause things like the IE6 effect. I would argue that, but I don't actually believe it as Ubuntu has only about 12 million users, most of which are more than able to change it from the default.
Unfortunately, apparently nobody outside of Canonical actually knows why they switched back. Wasn't it that Yahoo! offered them money? Then the only conclusion I can come to is that Google outbid them.
Luckily enough my school does not block any websites, however we are forced to live on a 4mbit connection for a school of ~800. I would say it was a stupid decision on the part of the network administrator, but a) He doesn't decide how much is spent on the connection and b) Few people at my school use the Internet for anything productive anyway, given half the chance.
Maybe this is why a large part of the American population hate taxes (But love to complain about them)- Because their government screws up every time they make a new one.
In addition to that, IE9 moves a lot of the load normally on the CPU to the GPU, and all the other mainstream browsers just use the CPU as far as I know- If Firefox & friends moved to using something like OpenCL for JavaScript and OpenGL for rendering, IE9 would be absolutely smashed. The fact that IE9 can't really beat the other browsers even when a lot of processing is moved to the GPU should say something about the efficiency of the rendering/JavaScript engines it uses, and forget getting those kind of speeds on older hardware where a GPU isn't necessarily there.
Nope. First thing I do is switch it to "New wave". That theme may have a strange color scheme (Not too strange, mind you- A sort of contemporary black and orange) but it is very well designed and has a very original and practical feel to it.

So in the US, controlled underground nuclear blasts would be plugged with oil leaks?
In the future: Everyone will steer robots with facial gestures and concentration. And be depressed.
"This is the urn of Are you over 37? You could win a free iPod touch!"
How convenient.
I am disappointed.

While I don't even have an educated guess, you can pretty safely assume that it's more money than you have in your metal-craving machine budget.

...Forbid that common sense would prevail over bureaucracy. It's one of the many gifts that humans have over computers, yet so many waste it. GOTO 10
In my opinion they could at least ship a version of IE9 without the hardware acceleration, at least it would improve standards compliance.
Now get back to your rightful place as the weird browser that nobody I know takes seriously.
I have heard good things about MSE from several people, but I haven't tried it myself.

That's a good point; In fact, the FedEx logo has won several awards (Albeit not for the colors).
Now that is a design challenge. I must try that.
Why thank you. :)
Whoops, didn't mean to post that as an anonymous coward... o_O
I was hoping for a story about how they were actually trying to get a horde of living dead to shut up.
No, speech recognition. Fool.
