programmer of [...] 6510-assembler
'Cause you know, there's a bloody high demand for 6510 programming these days...
I rip lame --alt-preset standard, so the average size is about 8 megs. 93 gigs. I consider it to all be good. With WinAmp set on shuffle, I happily don't hear the same few songs over and over again.
the IDEAL purchaser of the mini is someone who already loves their iPod and wants a smaller one for the gym
Er, no. The article is not discussing the existing iPod owner. The article is discussing Apple's competition in the lower-end market.
I'm confused as to why you changed the subject yet ignored the article.:)
I know girls who are buying all five colors to match their outfits and moods.
Wow, times have changed since I was a teen. I didn't know ANY TEENS with $1000 to blow on gadgets.
I didn't know I was so old.
Proves how STUPID teen girls you know are. Spend $50, get a model WHICH ISN'T THAT MUCH LARGER with FOUR TIMES THE SPACE. Oh, and buy some Exoskins to accessorize colors. They aren't limited to five measily colors.
How many people don't even have enough MP3s to fill the 4GB mini? Answer: A LOT
I disagree. Everyone I know who actually can spell MP3 and rip MP3s has a lot more than 4 gigs. I personally am at 93 gigs in my collection right now, and I still have 250 CDs to rip.
With my '40' iPod, I can carry less than half my music . Don't get me wrong - it's better than nothing (or 512k or 4 gigs). But it's not enough. Never enough. Give me more more more space!
Ok, Wil. Let's get some groundwork here. Do you mean worst film ever? Or worst ST film ever? I hope you meant the latter.
When confronted with Clockwork-Orangesque homage film torture thoughts, I'd take STV:TFF over Gigli any day.

I personally have never owned, and I have never known anyone who owned, a non-disposable Kodak camera.
Damn whippersnappers. I fondly remember my days with a Kodak 110 camera. Then I stepped up to the Kodak Disc camera. Somewhere along the way there was that Kodak knock-off of a Polaroid SX-70 (not that I owned one, we had the SX-70...) Never did get one of their APS cameras.
Your post is the first one I came across that pointed out the heart of the matter. Kodak hasn't been known as a source of high-end consumer film cameras - at least as far back as the '70s when I was a kid.
Kodak won't be missed in the camera department. If Nikon, Pentax, Olympus, or Canon had made this announcement, it would be big news. Kodak, though? Big deal. Or if Kodak had announced they wouldn't be making FILM any more. That would be news (although my local go-to camera store pushes Fuji over Kodak - as mentioned in other posts by other peeps.)
There are very, very few people qualified to run major corporations, compared to the positions available.
Oh, you're so right! There are so very few people skilled at screwing the average joe employee and the average consumer, lying to shareholders, and banking profits in their own accounts. People like Kenneth Lay are hard to find and WORTH EVERY PENNY.
Too expensive?
Let's do some math. Your daughter's player holds 256 MB of data. Cost $140.
My player holds 40 GB of data. Cost $449.
Your player cost 54 cents per meg.
My player cost 11 cent per meg.
I submit your player is too expensive on a per meg basis.
Why is the lead post in this thread +4 when it is clearly off-topic? The topic is Peter Jackson and filming the Hobbit - not "oh, my memory sucks and I need hand gestures to recall a long-winded geneaology every bit as dry as the Silmarillion."
Why will it take five days to simply NOP the subroutine that branches once per eight hours. The fix should take five minutes to release, not five days. Then they can worry about removing the code completely in the next bug-fix release.
Actually, I have a 10.1 upgrade CD. Absolutely requires 10.0 to be installed.
My friend told me he had ordered a "10.3 upgrade" version from Apple for $69. Turns out he ordered the educational version (we both legally qualify). I was assuming that he was buying a version that required 10.2 to be installed - you know, that pesky word "upgrade". Shame on me. I too could have bought Panther at the cheaper rate. Next time I'll know.
And to the asshole that modded my original as a troll. Bite me. It was an honest posting, and gee, look, I got honest replies.
Well, I feel like an idiot. My friend paid for the upgrade version. I bought the full version. In the past, the upgrade versions required a prior version of MacOS already on the hard drive. I really hate having to install my original 10.0 discs, then go through my 10.1 and 10.2 upgrade CDs on a new clean hard drive install. And I wanted to be able to install Panther from scratch.
I was quite surprised to compare my box to his. Same bar code, same product number, same CDs.

Thank goodness for technology. I ripped the CAV original LaserDiscs of the trilogy and burned my own DVDs.

(GRD)Let's review.
1. Michael posts a story on TiVo which has been discussed ad naseum on /. before.
2. Michael posts a story which claims the writer doesn't want to pay for hundreds of feaures (s)he'll never use.
Enough people have beat up on Michael on point one that I won't bother to.... whoops.
As to point two. Does no one look at Anandtech forums? Amazon PAYS YOU to get a new cell phone. See such threads as this one.
Somehow I doubt you're the 'average' teen.

However, RFID has a very short broadcast range. So if you're not within a few feet...

Except for the odd little fact that nothing confidential was in the PDF. Too bad people wasted mod points on your post.
Yeah, they better be quick. After all, it's not like they've ever switched actors in a movie series before. (A few more references in case you are slow.
Don't forget the smaller condoms.

If you have to explain a joke, it isn't funny.

Guess I could have saved $60.
George? George! I didn't know you had a /. account!
Dick Cheney's New America is what happened.
Ok, moderators, why is this score 3 informative and not score 0 flamebait? There was nothing "informative" about this political flamebait.
