How would you know that someone claiming to be 22 year old Mike Smith form Luton or 20 year-old Nalini Kapur from Mumbai are really the age they claim to be?
Not all but some of them are obvious. I know one that specifically says in the "about me" section that she is an 8 year old girl going to such-and-such elementary school. All of her pictures show an 8 year old running and playing and laughing. Yet there's no way to report it.
Never mind the spying..this Aarons "deal" is a sucker punch to the wallet.
ANYTHING bought on credit is like that. Did you pay sticker price for your car, or did you make payments on it? Did you pay cash for your house, or did you get a mortgage? Did you pay cash for college, or did you get a student loan? You are getting screwed on ANYTHING you don't pay cash for. Invasion of privacy doesn't have a damned thing to do with whether or not they had to make payments for a computer.
A monopoly is a company like Comcast being the only cable/broadband internet service available in an area, hence people HAVE to use you or resort to dialup. Netflix has competition online no matter where you live, where Comcast (or in my case Time Warner) may not.
Indeed, judges wants judges and lawyers to have monopoly on making money on lawsuits.
Judges and lawyers can make plenty of money off legitimate lawsuits. They did it long before you could sue someone just because you were too stupid to not put a boiling hot cup of coffee between your legs while driving.
I don't show up at Kroger (there aren't any close to where I live), but if I did, they would be hearing from me.
And exactly what would you do? Would you rip some 20 year old who is running the office, who has nothing to do with any of this? Would you see the store manager and rip him a new one, when HE has nothing at all to do with what the headquarters does?
I know someone who has had a fb profile for 2 years, and it says right in the info "I'm a smart 8 year old". Page still exists and there's no way to report it.
This isn't about someone getting drunk and posting a picture of herself. This is about going to a party, a friend takes a picture of you, and they put that picture on THEIR page. You don't even have to own a camera or have a facebook page at all for that to happen (although the woman in the article does have a fb page). I think this is more about your friends violating your privacy than fb violating it. There could be no tags even involved, all the friend would have to do is comment under the picture "Here's Sally getting all f'ed up, but I don't know where her kid is".
We Australians pay way too much for cds. $30~ for a new cd? Fuck that for a joke!
Exactly. I remember when CDs first came out in the United States, they were around $14. After about 6 months or so the music industry announced that prices were going to drop dramatically after the medium caught on and more people were buying them. Some 25+ years later, many new discs are now $18 to $20 (or more), and even discs that were available 25 years ago cost more now than they did back then.
You better watch out. I would have posted your post as anonymous in case someone decides to call child protective services on you for being an abusive parent and allowing your kids to suffer.
Interesting that you mention the Amish: I was in the local soc sec office about 5 years ago to get a card replaced. While I was in there, an Amish woman came in with close to 15 young girls, aged (I'm guessing) 7 to 14 or so. She was in there to get them all social security cards. My impression was that if she didn't have to do that, she definitely wouldn't.
So, you have one. Doesn't mean you have to use it. They're looking for a tool to see what kind of a person you are. Doesn't mean you have to give them one.
But unless you are like me and are relatively antisocial, the default setting allows anyone to search your name. You don't have to divulge that you have an account, they just have to look for it. As for me, I have it set up so my name doesn't turn up in searches, but most people don't know you can do that, nor do they see why they would ever want to.

Facebook should be fined for this predatory practice. This is a nasty exploitation of children.
It's not facebook's fault, it's the parents'.
I'd trust Sony with protecting (or arranging protection of) my identity...

No shit, look at the ShamWow! Vince wasn't kidding.

Or perhaps Step 1 ) Remove sensitive information
Exactly. Why the hell would you put ANYTHING sensitive like that on any computer connected to the internet?
Often, when it gets to version 4 or 5 you start to see different naming conventions come into play, like "NT" or the names of big cats or something.
So we're probably looking at the iPhone Tabby?

I have a hunch that their perspective has changed somewhat in the past month or so.
The channel owners are right. You have NO BUSINESS getting what you already pay for! Especially if it is more convenient for you.

How the hell can the first visible post be redundant?

Teachers around here where the population is around 7,000 average $50,000 a year. I hardly call that a pittance.
Everyone knows that the worst video game in the world is ET for the Atari 2600.
Cell towers use land lines.
Twitter is a vast bathroom wall where people scrawl things.
You also just described all blogs.
In a lot of ways, Google almost IS the internet. At least they are trying to be. I can not express how laughable this whole thing is.
