Yeah, banning cell phones sounds pretty easy to me. A lot of theaters and eateries ban them already. New York City has some ordinance or something banning in them in a lot of public places. It's not that hard to do. And if you're a country, just don't allow cell phone companies to build towers or operate in your country, it's that simple.
And I don't see how "You could be being watched at any point in time and not know it" is going to move countries to democracy, you'll have to explain your logic a little further...
I somehow doubt the entire thing will be run by one computer, cars built today are run by several computers. Not too mention they will have multiple redundancies and will be built to a different standard than something you just use for e-mail and video games. How often to you see computerized life-support systems crash?
Most Mustangs are sold to women and even more of them are V6s. The Mustang has more mass appeal than a Firebird or Camaro. Also, most women don't like the low-slung seating and nobody wants a V6 f-body. It's more of a nitche sports car, and GM made the choice to stop making them, maybe just for a brief while, there are lots of rumors for the Camaro's return sometime in the near future (2005-2008). Also, GM was closing the whole plant, there's a lot more to the story than just slow sales.
"the original Volkswagon was very moddable thanks to the fact that the body basically bolts onto the frame."
This wasn't exclusive to the VW, almost all cars up until the 80's were built like this. It's called body-on-frame construction. Pickups and truck-based SUV's still use it.
I'm just curious, how is a gun "explicitly crafted to terminate life"? They're made to be accurate, the same as knifes are made to be sharp. I don't see this as being made to terminate life. I own several guns that have never taken a life, human or animal, I just use them to shoot for fun.
Yeah, I'm sure there'll be a "class division" with commercial skip technology. Just like cable and Pay-Per-View have created.
And "Are we creating a television system where only the entertaining shows have enough commercial potential to get aired" That's the way it's worked since TV began, if a show sucks, nobody watches it, it can't get sponsors, it gets cancelled. I can't believe you haven't figured out that system yet.
I think he might be referring to the old Chrysler push-button transmissions they had in the 60's. It literaly was a "push-button" transmission. There were 3 buttons on the dash, one for each gear, and that's how you shifted, Press first gear to get going, then hit second, then third. To slow down, you have to hit second or first. It's kinda neat as a novelty, but I wouldn't want it in my daily driver.
Well, guess what? People do spend that much on computers, even though they don't need them. And guess what else? People don't need Segways at all, yet people will still buy them. And there's nothing you can do to stop them.
Yeah, that's what he said, that IBM's stopping production on hard drives is like GM's stopping production of Oldsmobile. Both of them are happening, he's just saying that it's a shame that IBM's not making them anymore, just like it's a shame GM's not making them anymore.
I was referring to last year, when prices went insane for basicly no reason, other than the oil companies wanted more money. It's kinda funny how gas can fluctuate from $.97 to $2.10 over the course of a few months, that's over a 200% fluctuation, and if the oil companies can make money on oil at $.97, with $.45 taxes, and dealer markup, then think how much they're making when it's over double the cost.
I think the main reason oil companies are disliked is because of their monopoly on a needed resource and the fact that they artifically inflate prices. I don't think the average joe thinks about how much pollution is created refining the gas he puts into his car, he does care however, about the fact that gas is $1.70 a gallon because some greedy oil company says that's what it should be.
Seymour and Edna are getting married in an upcoming episode next season.

Sweet!
Nikkon, Cannon? WTF, doesn't anyone know how to spell anymore? Oh, wait, this is Slashdot, nevermind...
The article doesn't say what type of body the camera is going to use. Anybody know? *hopes it's Nikon*

It's been a dream of mine for many years to have a car with the TIE fighter scream. That would kick so much ass!

I believe this quote is from Carroll Shelby. Obviously you know more about racing than he does. BTW, how many times have you won at LeMans?

"They'd have to come up with a PC-based app to manage the music."
Sony already has one, OpenMG Jutebox. It's been out for a couple of years, they're on version 2.2 already.
Everybody together now!
Far beyond the hills of Rapid,
there for all to screw,
lies an old abandoned shithouse
called BHSU...
Go Hardrockers!
Whoa, whoa, slow down Jon Katz!

10,000,000 units? Microsoft wishes. They'll be lucky to have 6M by the end of the year.

Ummm... Simpsons started in '89, it's 2002, ummmm... Let me think back to 1st grade.... carry the 1..... oh yeah, that's 13 years!
It connects with iLink (IEEE 1394). USB is for add-ons.

I've got news for you, EVERYONE hates the size of the XBox, Microsoft is too stupid to realize that though, oh well.

If you find the key, you get $2000, I don't know about you, but that would sure improve MY daily life.
We import almost a much oil from Canada as from Saudi Arabia. The difference is only about 3%.
