Every time I read an article like this
on
OS X On the MSI Wind
·
· Score: 2, Interesting
I wonder what the world would look like if Apple would sell software as well. I know they'd get a worse reputation because people would blame the OS for hardware / driver issues but it would certainly be neat to use OS/X on hardware other than that sold by Apple.
They would not have the margins they currently do, but it is very well possible that they'd take huge marketshare from microsoft.
And it would mean an instant end to the microsoft tax on new hardware.
FYI the 'developed' nations raped, plundered and killed so much during the last 400 years in that 'unproductive' continent that it will take them a couple of centuries more to recover. Let's hope by then they'll have mellowed out a bit about it or we'll definitely be seeing worldwar III.
All the arms sales currently going on, supporting I don't know how many puppet regimes selling some priceless resource for pennies on the dollar it is simply astounding.
SpaceX wrote history today, anybody not in the mood to congratulate them is either:
- jealous - working for a competitor - stupid
Let it go and see this for what it is, a private individual with a lot of cash did us all a great service, if only to show that it can be done.
That's a shitload better than all the bozos on the millionaire party circuit that can't think of anything better to do than to 'launch' their own perfume or fashion line.
correction, not ALL people. Some do, and it's great that they do.
Examples ?
Elon Musk gets an honorary mention today (not just for spacex) Eckart Wintzen (dutch guy, sadly deceased) Dean Kamen (not too sure about him though) Nicolette Mak Anousheh Ansari
I should hope the women on reality shows are not showing the same psychological make-up that women astronauts do, in much the same way as the drunks you see leaving bars don't have a whole lot in common with male astronauts.
Just because some in a group are making a mess of their lives does't mean all of them do.
Given that 'talking points' are very much in fashion and I've yet to see either candidate answer a question in a straightforward and to the point way.
If they are going to answer questions without resorting to bullshit then this would be mine:
"What are you going to do to ensure that the two party deadlock will be broken and would you be willing to do that anyway if you knew your party would eventually diminish in power because of this?"
follow up:
"Are you willing to swear that you will not break your campaign promises and vacate the office you will be elected to if you do break those promises?"
It would be a sure way to identify the candidate that would put country before themselves.
An election should be like a binding contract, instead it is more of a bait-and-switch.
And your post history includes all kinds of weird stuff about frosty piss, goatse and the GNAA, but by not mentioning it here, I'm sure no mod will ever look it up. I guess I should have expected that.
Funny you should say that, no Canada is actually pretty good, I've lived there for 5 years, I know lots of Aussies and just visited England and Scotland a couple of weeks ago. And I met some really nice people there.
There is really nothing wrong with any of these countries, it's their governments that get it very much wrong a disturbingly large amount of the times that they make decisions.
The 'genocide in your backyard' portion of your comment somewhat puzzles me, but I'm sure you will enlighten me as to what it was you meant. My backyard is rather small (all of 1500 square meters) and I'm pretty sure I would have spotted a genocide taking place there. Even a single murder would probably stand out quite clearly.
Whether Russia is 'ok' or not is really not something I can comment on, I've never been there (up to the Polish-Russian border but not to the other side), I just said that Russia has a pretty strong maths and programming tradition but that not much of it made it across the border.
I would like to bet with you that I've spent more time travelling and living abroad than you have and so will ignore your 'get out of your basement' comment.
Also, uid's are free so if you want to be taken a little more serious I suggest you get one and log in.
Thank you for taking such a disproportionate interest in my posting history.
unfortunately your point is very valid, it's just that in this particular case the message seems to be don't start developing an open source product without checking the license of the products you own that you plan on replacing
everybody else is free to do so anyway (maybe not as motivated though).
Who knows, maybe if I can troll you I can also code.
Fact is:
- you've already admitted to not being able to understand code written by people with more experience than you - you've so far only stated that you write some scripts, if it was more than that I'm sure you would have used that to bolster your argument - you conveniently hide behind your anonymous shield so any claims you make can not be debunked, whereas I'm quite visible to you - you seem to have quite an ego to want to debate your presumed skills but you fail to back them up with any example, or even your identity
So, in short you're probably just another wannabe coder that can't handle the fact that it's a lot more complicated than you thought it was and you take that out on others.
You seem to think that coding for 2 years in a bunch of scripting languages makes you a programmer, even after a lifetime in everything from several kinds of assembler, more high level languages than I care to enumerate I still know for a fact that there is more that I don't know than that I do, and it certainly isn't for lack of trying.
On a regular basis I get hired to untangle the mess from what I from today forward will call 'helpdesk programmers' and I strongly suspect that you know exactly what I mean when I say that because you respond so violently to it.
Get a userid if you feel like being taken seriously and let's have a look at your 'real code' then, you show me yours, I'll show you mine.
It goes back a lot further than that I think, the great granddaddy of computing (Alan Turing) was collaborating closely with Polish mathematicians during WWII while they were developing the 'bombe' to crack enigma.
Some of the very best programmers I know (Hey Marek G.!) are Polish.
Poland has an excellent track record when it comes to math and coding (as does Hungary by the way, and Russia as well but much less of what transpired in Russia has become public).

At the pricepoint they have in mind it's going to be pretty hard to afford that without some serious backing to begin with.

whoever modded this a troll is a jerk. You can disagree with it but it isn't a troll by a long shot (unfortunately).
The WTO has dirty hands in many places, Africa, Asia and Latin America for the most part.
If you are not taking this at face value (as you shouldn't) have a gander at Cochabamba water wars in Bolivia.
hah! excellent post.

Falcon 1 is neat, Falcon 9 will be a game changer.
I wonder how many successful launches of the '1' they will have to have in a row before risking 9 of them working in tandem.
The first few Falcon 9 launches will probably be quite risky again. (as 'a lot more risky than falcon '1' launches will be from now on).

I'm sure there are many many more.

He sure seems to have a streak for investing in 'nice' companies as well as being successful.
I'm very happy to see him succeed.

no, cluster computing was exactly what I had in mind when I wrote that.

I'm sure you only want this to inspect her vast tracts of land :)
obviously they'll be used to simulate Venezuela's nuclear bomb...
And they have oil to boot!
What's holding you back ?
Something similar is currently happening along the Mexican / Texas border ;)
And I hear they're trying to increase the average IQ of Alaska by moving some of their people to Washington...
yeah right, so all that will do is increase the false positive rate.
partial prints are just that, partials and should not be used for ID purposes, but hey, what do I know.
In some countries it seems to not matter who they get behind bars, as long as there is somebody associated with the crime it's good enough.
Same with DNA testing, it's best at *freeing* people, unless there is an exact match.
Getting very few crime cases solved is going to bring you full tilt into a police state.
See 'England'...
well since Australia really is nothing but an overgrown prison anyway I'd say they're wasting their money.
This will also look good to all those people that were thinking of emigrating there. This study was probably funded by the Canadian government ;)

To quote a certain Andrew T.: "ICantReadThis".
well, don't listen to your mum then :)
Really, what better way to make end users aware of the risks involved when they're using proprietary file formats?
Sue your own customers because they try to break the lock in? Great plan!
I'm sure that 'Thomas Reuters' will see their business go through the roof after this :)
