That would be nice, but how about if we also get an end to all these misleading "misleading headline" comments and the moderators who mindlessly promote them? Read the fucking claims and you'll see that this is a textbook example of a ridiculously broad patent.
The old camel-through-the-eye-of-a-needle quote is often misinterpreted in the same way. The meaning of that passage is to point out that with wealth comes great power and with great power comes great temptation. So if you don't have the wealth/power, it may be easier for you to live a clean/good life (i.e. to pass into heaven).
Well, it's certainly easier to live according to this old spin than according to the actual letter and meaning of the text, isn't it?
It's a bad name primarily because when pronounced it is neither "unique" nor "distinctive". It's got plenty of buzz, indeed... because this level of stupidity in product naming is noteworthy. When the buzz wears off, the stupid name will remain.
Not true about the whistles; from World 1 you can use one whistle to reach the warp area, then use a whistle from within the warp area itself to reach World 8. That's how it was done in that video and would be done in any speed run of that kind.
He has no reason to be ashamed; he's a member of the minority party and appears to be doing what he can to oppose the policies you criticize. Blaming him is manifestly unjust.
I'll admit, it's a little more difficult to get money that way than it'd be for a musician, but it's doable if done right
Please cite your evidence. The value added to a book by a signing or convention is negligible compared to the value added to a music CD by a live performance.
Some people are indeed that stupid and buyable, and Allen used them to drag down the 49% who weren't fooled. Presumably the poster you're responding to would have been numbered in the latter group.
On a side note, count this as another piece of evidence for why "winner-takes-all-with-simple-majority" systems are inherently crap.
So it is not any more irrational to believe in a God with no beginning and no end than it is for you to believe in an infinite universe that just happened.
Look up "Occam's Razor", then reconsider these words.
...but then, Phil Foglio's a pro and putting this online instead of directly to print is a relatively recent experiment. Frankly, it shows; the quality of his art (especially layouts) smokes that of all but the best-drawn webcomics.
...and on "narrowscreens", you can open more documents, web browser screens, etc. vertically. Any advantage widescreens may seem to have in this respect comes from having more total area or higher resolution, not from their aspect ratio.
Yea, but the thing is that these days you can buy a new console for LESS than a decent video card...
Utterly false. My last three video cards have cost around $100-$120 each; as long as you don't care to live on the bleeding edge (meaning, "decent" is good enough), you can get excellent price/performance ratios.
(Comments like the parent's seem to get moderated up every time there's a discussion like this. Do the moderators in question actually know anything about buying hardware? Never mind, it was a rhetorical question.)
The reason "we" don't get so upset is because something is done about people like that. They lose their jobs, page huge (usually bankrupting) fines, and then give up their liberty as they go to actual prison.
What makes you think the high stakes criminals who get caught are the only ones there are?
What makes you think they typically lose more in monetary penalties than they gained?
What makes you think their prison terms are commensurate with the damage done by their crimes?
I think gates used/uses his money to improve his tainted image.
Why is the parent post moderated "troll"? Be realistic, people -- this is one of the prime motivations for wealthy individuals and corporations to make charitable donations. Not the only motivation, mind you, but anyone who thinks it isn't a consideration in a multi-million-dollar donation is seriously naive.
Computer Shopper was a special case; the ads themselves were a big part of the reason for buying the magazine. In the days before online shopping, it was very convenient to have so many vendors (especially parts vendors) collected in a single volume, particularly since most of the individual ads were price lists. The magazine even included an "advertiser index" to make comparison shopping more convenient!
Of course, these days the WWW is much better at serving this need. I doubt it's a coincidence that CS started dropping in page count (ads included) as the Web rose in popularity.

The poster you're responding to understood all this perfectly well; it is exactly the point of the line you quoted.

In a democracy, this is true only to the extent that the democracy holds a gun to the minority's head on any other issue.
Just using GM as an example.
For future reference, four links about four different unions would make a much more compelling case.

Poor choice of words; if ATI's card will in fact be in stores in a few weeks, they're manufacturing them now.

Yep! Only the independently wealthy would have the time and resources for gaining and holding office.
On second thought, maybe it's not so very different from what we've got now.
The logic of "He has alot so it's no big deal for him to donate alot." is dumb as fuck.
I think you've confused "dumb" with "self-evident".

Canon has the lion's share, Nikon can't make up for [. . .] second-rate glass
Good one! Glad I wasn't drinking anything when I read that.
Zeiss optics
Sony just stamps the word "Zeiss" on lenses that Zeiss neither designed nor manufactured. It's all about branding, y'know....
$15k? After $750 for an Epson 2200 or equivalent, you must be budgeting ink and and paper for an awful lot of prints.
I am willing to wager your large-format will be made obsolete by a digital model in 3 years or sooner.
You'll lose.

One that ought to be much more popular than it is, especially among the Slashdot demographic:
...but then, Phil Foglio's a pro and putting this online instead of directly to print is a relatively recent experiment. Frankly, it shows; the quality of his art (especially layouts) smokes that of all but the best-drawn webcomics.

Graduated neutral density filter. Cokin makes a nice kit.

Making computing ubiquitous, and easy to understand-- these aren't things to be taken lightly.
Indeed. If Microsoft were uniquely responsible for doing those things, this comment would support your argument. They weren't, and it doesn't.
