I have a comment.
Why must the record companies be involved at all?
In your idea, they don't even have to do anything to get paid, so why ARE they being paid?
I think you made the mistake that 'in order for an artist to make money, a record company must first make money and take a cut of it'.
They have a neat powder that turns into a loose gel when activated by water, so any urine/feces that contacts it congeals and then it's probly just tossed into the next progress service module to burn up with their other waste matter.
They would never do an ad like that because it might cause the voting public to actually think about issues, and that's a very dangerous thing.
A nice 20 second smear commercial against Bush would do much better...
Origional Quake, and Half-Life are the two best games around. Quake 3 looks like a damn cartoon and Unreal* isn't much better.
I really hope that TF2 will use more realistic/hitscan weapons than TFC because that is what I love about counterstrike, but I like the fast gameplay of TFC...
Even that method isn't as secure as they'd like, because passers-by could still listen to your music or you could just take the wires to the magnets int he speakers and record from that.
A nice brain-implant decoder should do the trick nicely...
'Consumers' can't fix their cars either, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be allowed to if they wanted. A good way to keep a company in check is to be able to see what they're doing, and this is accomplished through reverse engineering. Just because most people don't doesn't mean that everybody can't or shouldn't.
At the movie theatre, they're charging you for the use of their facilities (rent and electricity aren't free), and the last time I rented (and it was explicitly known that when you pay them for a movie you're just renting, as opposed to 'liscencing' a DVD when you thnk you're buying it) a movie from blockbuster I was allowed to watch it as many times as I wanted during an N-day period.
Communism, capitalism, and all the others assume you have a limited amount of resources, and that they must be divided amongst the citizens.
There is no limit to the amount of software.
If ten people want a piece of bread, either one person gets the bread, or it is divided amongst them. If ten people want some software, all ten can have the exact same, complete software.

the RIAA has every right to make money however they can
No they don't. There are laws to prohibit unfair buisness practices and (attempt to) stop monopolies.

Don't you mean "...lies which our government is attempting to lull us to sleep!"

Natural selection of buisiness (aka. capitalism) doesn't work when 99% of conusmers are absolute morons and don't research what they buy...

It all went downhill after the origional Quake...

Why doesn't apple just skip all this one-click nonsense and just use zero-click shopping?
I mean, Apple knows what's best for you anyway...
